BURNSVILLE, MN – University of Mary men's golf was picked to finish 8
th in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll after placing 6
th at the conference championships the past two seasons. Junior
Quinn Breidenbach was selected as the team's Golfer to Watch.
The team will be led by first-year head coach
Kyle Kasitz this season. He joins the Marauders after simultaneously competing for the men's golf team and serving as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's golf teams at Taylor University.
He will be coaching a men's team that will bring back all but two of its competitors from last season, including all six golfers who represented the Marauders at the NSIC Championships.
"What excites me most about this year's team is the level of experience we bring into the season," said Kasitz. "Our returning players have developed a competitive drive and confidence that comes from competing at a high level. We are looking forward to building on that foundation and seeing what this group can accomplish together."
The Marauders had four returning golfers top the leaderboard at meets last season. They were
Dawson Melbo (Augustana Spring Invite),
David Thomson (Yellowjacket Fall Invitational),
Aiden Knodel (UJ Fall Invite), and
Quinn Breidenbach (Marauders Invitational, Upper Iowa Spring Invite).
Breidenbach was named the team's Golfer to Watch heading into his junior year following a team-best 11
th-place finish at the NSIC Championships.
"Quinn is coming off a strong season and has continued to put in the work to elevate his game even further," said Kasitz. "He has gained a lot of confidence over last year's success. Quinn will make a significant impact for our team, and we are looking forward to seeing what is in store for this year."
The Marauders' season begins on the road at the Fall Brawl in Hudson, WI, on Sept. 14 and 15. UMary will host the United Printing Marauders Invitational on Sept. 28 and 29 from Hawktree Golf Club in Bismarck, ND.
