UMary track and field hosting Marauders Outdoor Opener Saturday

BISMARCK, ND – Following a strong end to the indoor season, University of Mary men's and women's track and field will host the Marauders Outdoor Opener at the MDU Resources Community Bowl in Bismarck, ND on Saturday, Mar. 21. Field events will begin at noon with track events starting at 12:30.

The meet will feature exclusively North Dakota schools. Minot State University, University of Jamestown, Valley City State University, Dickinson State University, and Bismarck State College will be competing.

LAST TIME OUT
A trio of Marauders were crowned as All-Americans last weekend at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach, VA. Sophomore Kenny Moxey placed 3rd in the Heptathlon, breaking his own school record with a 5,454. Senior Laila Cleare outperformed her pre-meet seed by 11 spots, placing 3rd in the nation in the 60m Dash and earning her first career All-American. Sophomore Tayen Werner placed 5th in the 400m Dash to earn her first individual All-American.

ATHLETES TO WATCH
Nathan Andrews and Sean Erickson were named the men's team's Athletes to Watch. Andrews was the conference's Freshman of the Year during the indoor season after winning the 600m Dash at the NSIC Championships. Erickson is the school's record-holder in the Discus and placed 3rd in the event at the conference championships last year.

Laila Cleare and Anna Rader were the women's team's Athletes to Watch. Cleare, coming off an All-American indoor season, was the NSIC Champion in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m last year. Rader is a multi-athlete who reached an NCAA provisional mark in the Pentathlon for the first time in her career at the NSIC Indoor Championships. She has scored points at the last indoor and outdoor conference championships.

PRESEASON POLLS
Both the men's and women's teams were picked 2nd in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll ahead of the outdoor season. That is where each team finished at last year's NSIC Outdoor Championships.
