Moxey Jr. finishes 3rd in Heptathlon at NCAA Championships, named All-American

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – It was a historic day at the NCAA Championships for University of Mary men's track and field sophomore Kenny Moxey Jr. With personal best marks in the final three events of the Heptathlon, Moxey Jr. set a new school record and finished 3rd overall to end the indoor season as an All-American.

DAY 1 RECAP

The second day of competition began with the 60m Hurdles and Moxey Jr. 2nd in the overall Heptathlon standings. He went on to place 3rd and cut 0.05 seconds off his personal best with an 8.23.

His next PR came in the Pole Vault, where the sophomore soared over the bar at 4.35m, beating his previous best mark by 0.05m. He was 9th in the event and went into the final portion of the Heptathlon in 3rd place overall.

In a gutsy 1000m Run performance, Moxey Jr. passed five competitors on the final lap to finish 8th, maintaining his 3rd place overall spot and securing an All-American. His final time of 2:56.14 was over five seconds faster than his previous best mark.

Moxey Jr. finished the weekend with 5,454 points, smashing his own school record by over 200 points.

Outdoor season for UMary begins next weekend at home with the Marauders Outdoor Opener on Saturday, March 21, from the MDU Resources Community Bowl in Bismarck, ND.
