BURNSVILLE, MN – The University of Mary men's track and field team was picked 2
nd in the Northern Sun's Preseason Coaches' Poll ahead of the outdoor season.
Nathan Andrews and
Sean Erickson were named the team's Athletes to Watch.
The Marauders are coming off their best outdoor conference finish since 2019, placing 2
nd at the meet. The 4x100m Relay team went on to finish with All-American honors, becoming the first men's relay team to do so in program history.
"The men's team is built more for the outdoor season," said head coach
Cale Korbelik. "With the number of events that we thrive in during the outdoor track and field season, we look to take advantage. Our men competed well, with an injury-filled indoor season. I look forward to getting the group healthy and finishing the year strong."
Freshman
Nathan Andrews was named the Preseason Track Athlete of the Year after a stellar performance in his first competitive indoor season. The NSIC Indoor Freshman of the Year won the 600m at the NSIC Championships, setting a school record in the process.
"Nathan had a great Freshman season during the indoor season," said Korbelik. "His improvements have been dedicated to his hard work and dedication to his craft. I think Nathan has a lot of untapped potential still in him, and outdoor will be a great time to see what he can do in various events in the sprints and long sprints."
Sean Erickson was named the Preseason Field Athlete of the Year after becoming UMary's discus record-holder last outdoor season. He is coming off a 3
rd-place finish in the event at last year's NSIC Outdoor Championships.
"Sean is the leader of our Team," said Korbelik. "He has grown greatly in his time at U-Mary as a student, athlete, and leader. Sean's best season is outdoor, where he thrives in the Discus, Hammer, and Javelin. We look forward to his chances to do great things at the conference and possibly national meet this outdoor. Our men's team will lean on his leadership as well throughout the year."
The season begins this weekend at home with the Marauders Outdoor Opener on Saturday at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.
The NSIC Championships will be held from May 7 to 9 in Duluth, MN.
