Andrews named NSIC Indoor Track Freshman of the Year

BURNSVILLE, MN – Following a record-breaking performance at the NSIC Championships, University of Mary men's track and field's Nathan Andrews was named the conference's Freshman of the Year. The is the first year the award has been given by the Northern Sun, differentiating Newcomer of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards.

Andrews' season started brilliantly, breaking the school record in the 600m Dash in his first-ever collegiate race. He went on to break that record and win the 600m Dash at the NSIC Championships last weekend. Andrews was also a member of the 4x400m Relay squad that placed 3rd at the NSIC Championships.

Andrews, who is originally from Fargo, ND, also had top-15 times in the NSIC in the 800m (8th), and the 400m (13th).

While not the same honor, UMary men's track and field last won Newcomer of the Year in 2008, when Tyler Zacher earned the award.

Andrews and UMary will begin the outdoor season at home on March 21 with the Marauders Outdoor Opener. The meet will be held at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.
