BROOKINGS, SD – The University of Mary women's track and field team performed well at their final road meet of the season, the SDSU Classic.
Tayen Werner continued to progress in her sophomore year, breaking her own record in the 400m.
Werner scored the lone individual victory for the Marauders over the weekend, earning a time of 53.93. The Canadian moved up from 9
th to 5
th in the national rankings in the 400m as a result.
Kelescia Downes placed third in the event and moved up 22 spots nationally to 15
th with a 54.97.
Werner and Downes united with
Kate Van Erp and
Aspen Eslinger for the 4x400m Relay and placed 3
rd behind a pair of Division I teams with a time of 3:44.37. That ranks 12
th in the nation currently.
Eslinger had a top-5 finish in the 600m with a 1:35.85. That's good enough for third in the NSIC behind teammates Werner and Downes.
Laila Cleare tied her season-best mark of 7.48 in the 60m Dash, placing 3
rd and keeping her in 15
th nationally.
Kristine Kalthoff had two top-five performances, setting a PR in the 5000m and placing 2
nd with a 17:04.72. She also placed 5
th in the Mile with another PR of 4:56.58. She is currently less than three seconds away from an NCAA provisional mark in both events.

UMary will be home for one final meet before the NSIC Championships as the team will host the Marauders Tune-Up this Saturday, Feb. 21.
