UNION LAKE, MI – With five American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 1 regular season rankings remaining to determine the national tournament field, the University of Mary is ranked 11
th in the country.
UMary has eight regular season games remaining on the schedule before competing in the Midwest College Hockey tournament starting February 20 in Albert Lea, MN. Six games are scheduled against teams ranked in the ACHA top 25; home and away games against both #7 University of Jamestown and #1 Minot State University and two home games against #18 Midland University.
The other two home games feature a visit from Waldorf University.
The Marauders are 20-8-0-0-0-1 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) overall, 17-8-0-0-0-1 against ACHA MD1 teams and 4-3-0-0-0-0 in MCH play (12 points). Additionally the Marauders are 11-8-0-0-0-0 when playing nationally ranked teams.
Since a preseason ranking of #14, the Marauders have remained in the top 14 through all 11 regular season rankings.
UMary sat at #14 in the first two regular season polls before spending four straight weeks at #12. After a jumping to #11 for two straight polls, UMary moved to #10 for two polls before slipping one slot this week to #11.
The October 29 poll was the last coaches' ranking of the season. Computerized rankings started November 5 and continue into February. The computerized rankings determine the 18 squads who will join the six teams earning automatic qualifying bids to form the 24-team ACHA MD1 national championship tournament field and compete for the title in Centene, MO, in March.
The Marauders are 7-8 against teams currently ranked in the 11
th Top 25 poll this year.
Next up for UMary is a visit to Jamestown on Friday, January 23. The Marauders then host the Jimmies on Saturday, January 24. The puck drops at 7 pm both nights.
