Becker named second-team All-American after Day 1 of NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – At her first NCAA Indoor Championships, University of Mary women's track and field senior Alyssa Becker took home second-team All-American honors in the 5000m run.

Becker raced to an 11th-place finish in her first of two races this weekend, clocking in at 16:40.01. It was a very competitive field in the 5000m run, as even Becker's PR of 16:30.86 would still make her a second-team All-American.

Overall, it is the senior's second All-American honor after she placed 6th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in the fall. Becker will look to add to her trophy case on Saturday in the 3000m run.

Junior Laila Cleare competed in the 60m dash prelims earlier today and was unable to advance to the finals, placing 17th in the event.

Tomorrow will be a busy day for the Marauders. At 11:00 am, Hayden Von Wald and Jorgen Paulson will compete in the long jump finals. At 1:30, Elizabeth Acheson will partake in the 800m prelims. She'll be followed by Tia Horning in the 60m hurdles prelims at 3:15. Laila Cleare will close out the day at 4:00 in the 200m dash prelims.

Live results from Friday's competition can be followed here.
