NEW ORLEANS, LA – The University of Mary men's and women's track and field teams had six members recognized as All-Region athletes by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Hayden Von Wald and
Jorgen Paulson represented the men's team while
Elizabeth Acheson,
Alyssa Becker,
Kristine Kalthoff, and
Laila Cleare represented the women's team.
The top five individuals in each event from the Central Region were recognized as All-Region athletes.
Elizabeth Acheson was named to the All-Region team for the fifth time in her indoor career. This time around, Acheson earned the honors in both the 800m run and the mile. The NSIC's Outstanding Senior of the Year has the top time in the region in the 800m and the 3
rd best time in the mile. She will be competing in the 800m run this week at the NCAA Championships.
Alyssa Becker was the Central Region Athlete of the Year during cross country season and earned All-Region honors in three events in indoor track season. Becker has been an All-Region competitor in all four of her years with UMary. She earned regional marks in the mile, the 3000m run, and the 5000m run. Becker is the best in the region both the 5000m and 3000m, and is fourth in the mile. The senior will be competing at the NCAA Championships in the 5000m and 3000m.
Laila Cleare is also a first-time member of the All-Region indoor team. The school record holder in the 60m dash was named All-Region in both the 60m and 200m dash. Cleare is second and third in the region in those events, respectively, and will be competing at the NCAA Championships in both this week.
Kristine Kalthoff is a first-time All-Region honoree, clinching her spot in the 3000m run. The senior is fifth in the region in the event.
Hayden Von Wald and
Jorgen Paulson are both first-time honorees in the long jump. Von Wald has the top mark in the region while Paulson is right behind him in third. Both seniors will be competing at the NCAA Championships in the event this weekend.
