FARGO, ND – The 14
th-ranked University of Mary women's track and field team completed its two-day stay in Fargo for the Bison Open, placing fourth in the meet. There were two NCAA qualifying marks and five top-five finishes across the board.
Junior
Laila Cleare was the standout performer for the Marauders at the Bison Open, setting the school record in the 60m dash. After starting with an NCAA qualifying time of 7.54 in the prelims, Cleare cut her time to 7.43 in the finals, placing second by a hair. The previous school record was 7.45 seconds, set by current assistant coach
Arianna Passeri last year.
Cleare is now 12
th in the nation and 1
st in the Northern Sun in the 60m dash. She also competed in the 200m dash and had an NCAA qualifying mark of 24.82. As a result, Cleare moved up to 31
st in the nation in the event.
Freshman
Amber Rosemeier had the best finish in her collegiate career, placing second in the 600m dash. Rosemeier passed the finish line at 1:37.10, just 0.14 seconds off the leader.
A pair of distance runners placed top 5 in the 1000m run. Freshman
Ellyn Engels ran in the event for the first time in her career and placed second with a time of 3:08.56. Two spots behind her was senior
Rachael Neu at 3:12.72.

Up next for the Marauders will be the SDSU Indoor Classic in South Dakota on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14 and 15. After that, UMary concludes the indoor regular season with the Marauders Tune-Up on Feb. 22.
