BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary women's track and field team earned a season-opening victory at the Mike Thorson Alumni Classic behind standout performances from their sprinters.
Laila Cleare,
Tionce Walrond,
Tayen Werner, and
Anna Bruno all made the trip to outdoor nationals to conclude last year. They all started the 2025-26 indoor season with victories.
Cleare did so in the 60m Dash with a 7.56, though her best time of the day came in the prelims at a qualifying mark of 7.48. She currently ranks 5
th in the nation in the event. Cleare also placed 2
nd in the 200m Dash.
Werner was victorious in that 200m Dash, finishing at 24.92. That time, which is an NCAA provisional mark, is 6
th in the nation. Werner also won the 400m with a 57.65.
Walrond won Friday's 200m Dash and her time of 24.52 is currently the #1 time in NCAA Division II.
Bruno's win was in the Long Jump, topping the leaderboard at 5.62m. The junior also set a PR in the 60m Dash at 7.88.
Distance specialist
Kristine Kalthoff won the Mile by over 16 seconds at 5:05.34.
Freshman
Kate Van Erp won in her debut with an 11.31m leap in the Triple Jump.
