BILLINGS, MT – For the second meet in a row, University of Mary men's golf has an individual champion. Freshman
David Thomson claimed the title at the Yellowjacket Fall Invitational after a three-hole playoff.
Thomson was golfing for UMary's B team, but ended the first round tied for the lead with a 71 (-1). The freshman followed that up with an even-par 72 on Tuesday, ending the 36 holes in a tie with Aidan McDonagh of Rocky Mountain College, and fellow Marauder
Lucas Schoepp.
Thomson birdied the third hole of the playoff with a long putt to claim the victory.
It was a strong day for Thomson's teammates, as Schoepp (T-1
st) and
Quinn Breidenbach (4
th) both had top-5 finishes. Breidenbach golfed to an even par 144, finishing at 72 on both days.
Lucas Greenlun placed 18
th with a 150 (+6).
Evan Booth rounded out the team scoring in 26
th with a score of 152 (+8) to help the team finish in 2
nd place.
On the B team, freshman
Payton Hiller earned a top-15 finish with a 149 (+5).

UMary will close out its fall season next week in Larchwood, IA, at the USF Invitational hosted by the University of Sioux Falls. The tournament takes place on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 13 and 14, at the Grand Falls Casino and Golf Resort.
