BISMARCK, ND – Behind a pair of top-three finishes, the nationally 17
th-ranked University of Mary women's cross country team placed second in the season-opening Marauders Invite. All five of UMary's top finishers were in the top 20 in the six-school meet.
Following the 6k run at McDowell Dam in Bismarck, ND, the Marauders finished with 35 points, just 10 behind the leaders, North Dakota State University. Minot State University finished 3
rd with 80 points, and Bismarck State College placed 4
th with 116 points to close out the team standings.
Seniors
Alyssa Becker (21:10.29) and
Kristine Kalthoff (21:12.30) impressed, finishing second and third, respectively, behind only NDSU's Reagan Baesler (20:51.19).
Andrijana Fundak (21:38.06) followed, claiming a top-10 spot in sixth place.
Rounding out the team scoring for the Marauders were
Terez Wycklendt (22:01.99) in 11
th overall and
Elizabeth Acheson (22:29.14) in 13
th.
Following a strong showing at home, UMary will head east for the Dragon Invite, hosted by Minnesota State University Moorhead. The meet will take place next Friday, Sept. 13, at 7:30pm.
