Box Score 2 KEARNEY, NE – The University of Mary volleyball team gained a split on day two of the University of Nebraska Kearney Fall Classic in the Marauders final tune-up before the opening of Northern Sun play.

A balanced attack featuring double digit kills from
Gabby Caskey,
Charli Blackman and
Robi Binagi led UMary to a 3-0 victory over Missouri Southern in the opening match on day two of the UNK Fall Classic.
The Marauders used a potent attack (44 kills to 36) and a strong defensive effort to capture the win. UMary hit .214 over the three sets to .152 for MSSU.
Leading by as many as six points, including an 18-12 edge, the Marauders held off a late charge that saw the Lions close within 21-20. A Caskey kill and a block by Massy Freed and Caskey scored UMary's final two points in the 25-22 set one victory.
Another tight match in set two, MSSU pulled withing 22-21 before UMary scored the final three points on kills by Caskey, Blackman and Cooper.
Set three was just as tight. UMary broke a 12-12 tie on a Cooper kill. Freed followed with an ace and the Marauders never trailed again.
Caskey had 11 kills and just two attack errors. Defensively she added five block assists. Blackman had a double double with 11 kills and 11 digs. Binagi chipped in 10 kills and four block assists. Cooper added nine kills and hit a team-best .421 for the match.
Freed also had a double double with 37 assists and 14 digs.
Kaia Sueker posted 19 digs for a second straight match.
Oklahoma Christian University 3 (25-19, 25-22, 25-17) UMary 0
Gabby Caskey led the Marauders in kills for a third straight game, pacing UMary's efforts against Oklahoma Christian University with eight terminations. Strong at the net, the Ogallalla, NE, native also had two solo blocks and an assisted block to wrap up the weekend in her home state.
Maddie Cooper picked up six kills and didn't have an attack error in her 22 swings. She also had two assisted blocks.
Robi Binagi chipped in seven kills.
Maddy Freed distributed 26 assists and had a team-best 17 digs,
Kaia Sueker contributed 15 digs and
Charli Blackman added 13 digs and three block assists.
Riley Daughtry had 14 kills and 12 digs for OCU.
After dropping the opening set 25-19, the Marauders rallied back from an early eight point deficit in the second game and claimed a 21-20 lead on a
Jenna Lansing kill. After two straight points by OCU, a Caskey kill pulled UMary into a 22-22 tie. Oklahoma Christian ran off three straight points to claim the second set. A back-and-forth third set finished with a 12-4 run for OCU.
The Marauders return home to host Augustana on Friday, September 20, in the NSIC opener. Game time is 6 pm at UMary's McDowell Activity Center.
