BISMARCK, ND - University of Mary swimming and diving head coach Abby Loel announces Alex Lucy as the new assistant coach for the Marauders swimming program.

"We are so excited to welcome Alex Lucy into this role of assistant coach here at the University of Mary. He has several years of coaching experience at many different levels that he brings to our program," said head coach Abby Loel

Lucy grew up in Minot, ND, as he swam for Minot High School under Coaches Ken Disher and Jake Solper. Lucy coached the head coach for Bismarck High School Boys and Girls swim and dive programs in 2012 and coached there till 2015. During his time at BHS, Lucy received two WDA Coach of the Year awards.

"I am very honored and grateful for this opportunity to be the assistant coach of the Swim and Dive program at the University of Mary. Swimming and diving require extreme dedication, work ethic, sportsmanship, and a striving to improve daily. These are the values which you see UMary strive to live by and teach as lifelong values to students and employees alike," Lucy said.

The Minot, ND, native began coaching the West Fargo Flyers swim club in West Fargo, ND, from 2015 to 2020. There he saw the swim club grow from 90 members to 200 over his six years with the program. During that time Lucy was named Coach of the Year three times by his peers.

"Alex brings an energetic spirit, a great deal of attention to detail to his work, and an ability to guide athletes to reach their full potential. We look forward to having him be a big asset to our program as we continue to elevate it," Loel said.

Lucy returned to Bismarck in 2021, where he served as the head assistant coach for the Aquastorm swim club and coached the Legacy High School boy's swim team.

"I look forward to working alongside Coach Abby Loel who brings a wealth of not only knowledge in the sport but a patience and understanding that is extremely valuable to the athletes she coaches and the peers she works with. I am excited for the seasons to come and to share my knowledge and passion for the sport on a daily basis on and off the pool deck," said Lucy.
