AUSTIN, TEXAS –
Victoria Murillo, the first University of Mary swimming All-American for her work in the pool, is just the second Marauders scholar-athlete in all sports to earn Academic All-American honors twice in their careers.
The senior from Cancun, Mexico, earned a spot on the 2023-24 Academic All-America® Women's Swimming & Diving team for NCAA Division II selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC). Murillo earned second team Academic All-America® honors from CSC (formerly CoSIDA) for a second straight year.
Only 33 NCAA Division II swimming & diving scholar-athletes earned this elite academic award (10 on both 1st and 2nd teams, 13 on 3rd team) and just four from the Northern Sun. She is one of ten swimmers on the 2023-24 Academic All-America® team who have earned honors from CSC multiple times.
A graduate student, Murillo had a 3.65 GPA as an undergraduate in Medical Lab Science and owns a 4.0 GPA while working towards her MBA.
Murillo placed 15
th in the 500 meter free at the 2024 NCAA Division II championships to earn 2
nd team All-American honors. She won two NSIC championships in 2024 and was named the Swimmer of the Meet. A 13-time NSIC champion, she was the conference freshman of the year in 2019, the 2023 NSIC swimmer of the meet, earned 17 all-conference awards, twice claimed All-American honors (1
st team 2023, 2
nd team 2024) and has competed at five NCAA championships.

Sarah Towey join Murillo on the 2024 Academic All-District® women's swimming & diving teams, as selected by College Sports Communicators. The Academic All-District® team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom.
Elliott is a graduate student in kinesiology from Minot, ND, who competed in the freestyle events. She is a recipient of the Northern Sun's Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction award.
Desmond is a sophomore from Bowling Green, OH, majoring in elementary education.
Towey, who is majoring in biomechanics, is a sophomore from Mesa, AZ.
Elliott, Desmond, Murillo and Towey earned NSIC Academic Team of Excellence honors in 2024.
To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District® and All-America® consideration, a scholar-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CSC has bestowed Academic All-America® honors to student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
