Marauders east-bound for a weekend visit to UMD, SCSU

THIS WEEK
Taking their final regular season doubleheader weekend road trip of the season, the University of Mary looks to secure a playoff berth in the Northern Sun postseason tournament. UMary first visits the University of Minnesota Duluth on Friday, February 10. Tip off between the Marauders and the Bulldogs at Romano Gymnasium in Duluth, MN, is slated for 5:30 pm. On Saturday, February 11, UMary stops by St. Cloud State University for a 3:30 pm game at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud, MN, between the visiting Marauders and the Huskies.

PLAYOFF PUSH
Four games remain in the regular season for the Marauders and the Northern Sun and UMary is gunning for a playoff berth. The top six teams in each of the 8-team NSIC North and South divisions make the tournament, based on divisional standings. The top two teams in each the North and South divisions earn byes into the NSIC quarterfinals. The 3rd place team in both divisions will host the 6th place team in the opposite division with the 4th place teams in each division hosting the 5th place squad. (NOTE If there is a tie in the overall record, the game will be hosted by the higher (better) seed unless the lower (worse) seeded team beat the higher seeded team on the road during the regular season.)

Currently the Marauders are 6th in NSIC North divisional games. Northern State (9-1 against NSIC North teams) is first followed by MSU Moorhead and Minnesota Duluth (both 7-3), Bemidji State (6-4), Minot State (5-5), UMary (4-6), St. Cloud State (2-8) and Minnesota Crookston (0-10). UMC is the only North division team eliminated from postseason contention.

UMary holds a 2-game lead over SCSU for the final spot with the Marauders and Huskies facing off Saturday in St Cloud. A second win by the Marauders over the Huskies on Saturday will guarantee UMary a playoff slot, as will three wins in the last four games by UMary or three losses by SCSU.

The NSIC tournament opens at home sites on Wednesday, February 22. The NSIC Basketball Tournament then moves to the Pentagon in Sioux Falls, SD, with the men's quarterfinals February 25-26, the semifinals February 27 and the championship game February 28.
