MANKATO, MN – University of Mary sophomores
Jorgen Paulson and
Brendon Hoyte earned all-conference honors for the Marauders at the 2022-23 Northern Sun Men's indoor Track & Field Championships.
Paulson had a second straight impressive performance in the 200 meter dash to earn All-Northern Sun honors for the first time. The sophomore out of Edgeley, ND, gave the Marauders men their best podium finish of the day with a second place effort, churning up the track in 22.05 seconds. His NCAA provisional qualifying time equaled his effort from the preliminaries the day earlier.
Brendon Hoyte earned All-Northern Sun honors in the 60 meter dash for the second straight year. The sophomore from Barbados ran an NCAA qualifying time of 6.85 seconds to claim third place.
Dawson Strom received All-NSIC honors a day earlier after placing 3
rd in the 5000 meter run.
Malakhi Stevenson just missed all-conference honors in the heptathlon. Stevenson placed fourth overall with 4700 points, just 19 out of third place. His best finish was in the 1000 meter run where he placed second in the field of 14. Stevenson shattered his previous best mark of 4267 and missed the NCAA provisional qualifying mark by only 11 points.
A pair of Marauders had podium finishes in the 600 meter run.
Joseph Patchen-Mills finished 4
th with a time of 1:23.20, a personal best. He missed all-conference honors by .04 seconds.
Tanner Schiller placed 8
th in 1:25.35.
Aleix Garbajosa placed 4
th in the 800 meter finals. He finished in a time of 1:55.57.
Raheem Taitt-Best joined Paulson on the podium following the 200 meter run. In his first championship event for the Marauders Taitt-Best placed 7
th in the 200 in a time of 22.74.

Dillan Kovash, who placed for the Marauders in the pole vault on Saturday, was named the NSIC Elite 18 Award winner for men's indoor track & field. He was presented the award during the post championship ceremony at the NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships, which were held the past two days at Myers Field House in Mankato, Minnesota.
As part of the NSIC 25th Anniversary celebration during the 2016-17 academic year, the NSIC Elite 18 Award was instituted to recognize the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the NSIC Championship level in their sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among their peers. The NSIC Elite 18 award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NSIC's 18 Championships.
Kovash is graduate student majoring in physical therapy and holds a 4.00 grade point average. The Manning, North Dakota native placed seventh in the pole vault at the NSIC Championships, clearing 14-8 (4.47m). Entering the championship, Kovash ranked ninth in the NSIC in the pole vault with a clearance of 14-7.5 (4.46m) at the Bison Open on February 3. Kovash's personal record came at the 2021 NSIC Championships where he cleared 15-7.75 (4.77m) to finish second and earn All-NSIC honors.
UMary finished 5
th overall with 49 points. Host Minnesota State University claimed the NSIC title.
