THIS WEEK
For the second time during the 2022-23 indoor season the University of Mary men's and women's track & field teams are heading to Brookings, SD, this time to compete in the South Dakota State University Indoor Classic on February 10-11 at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.

The 2-day Indoor Classic commences at 4:30 pm on Friday with four running events. Start time on Saturday is 11 am for both track and field events. Over40 schools and nearly 1,400 athletes are expected to compete.

When the Marauders competed at SDSU's Jim Emmerich Alumni Invite on January 21, the UMary men's 4x400 meter relay team of
Aleix Garbajosa,
Jorgen Paulson,
Akil Howell and
Raheem Taitt-Best posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:17.29 and Garbajosa set a school record in the 800. For the women
Alyssa Becker registered an NCAA qualifying mark in the 3K while
Arianna Passeri did the same in the long jump.

COMING HOME
The SDSU Indoor Classic is the last road trip for UMary prior to the Northern Sun championships on February 23-25 as the squad will compete at home in the Marauders Tune-Up on February 18.

LAST TIME OUT
The Marauders had a big team effort by both the men and women's teams at the Bison Open last weekend.

Men's Bison Open highlights
- Posted a total of four NCAA qualifying marks
- Raheem Taitt-Best (22.01 seconds) and Jorgen Paulson (22.06) went 1-2 in the 200 meter dash with both scholar-athletes recording NCAA qualifying marks
- Taitt-Best later earned his second and the UMary men's third NCAA qualifying time of the weekend with a second place effort in the 400 meter run (49.34)
- Joseph Patchen-Mills registered the Marauders other weekend title as he won the 600 meter run in 1:24.29
- Aleix Garbajosa garnered the fourth qualifying mark for the Marauders men with a time of 1:53.86 in the 800 meter run

Women's Bison Open highlights
- Ava Grimm won the 600 meter run (1:37.16) with Danalee Brock taking second (1:37.73)
- All-American Alyssa Becker picked up the other win of the weekend for UMary with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 9:43.58 in the 3000 meter run
- Arianna Passeri registered the Marauders other NCAA qualifying mark at the Bison Open with a season-best effort of 5.99 in the long jump to place second. She also finished 3rd in the 60.
- Antonia Genet also earned a second place finish with her effort in the high jump when she cleared 1.60 meters

2023 RECORD PERFORMANCES
Aleix Garbajosa broke the men's school record in the 800 meter run at the Emmerich Invite on January 21 with a time of 1:52.98. The old mark was 1:53.49 by Teegan Olson in 2018.

2022-23 NSIC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Northern Sun champion Brandon Hoyte twice has earned NSIC Track Athlete of the Week honors for his performances the first two weeks of the season. He earned the honor December 13 and January 17.

FIVE MARAUDERS EARN 2023 NSIC MYLES BRAND ALL-ACADEMIC WITH DISTINCTION HONORS
UMary women's track & field athletes
Taleigh Adrian,
Teresa Blote,
Abby Folk, Ncole Kramchynsky and
Ellen Moore earned the NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award for their efforts in the classroom and during competition. The senior student-athletes honored must have a 3.75 GPA, are exhausting their academic eligibility and are on track to graduate. Â
