ALLENDALE, MI and FARGO, ND – University of Mary women's track & field scholar-athletes found success while competing in a pair of locations on Friday, compiling a pair of NCAA provisional qualifying marks.
Alyssa Becker kicked off her 2023-24 indoor season in style as the junior All-American ran an NCAA Division II provisional time in the 5000-meter run at the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open.
Becker finished ninth with a time of 17:00:30 and ranks 18
th in the nation.
Andrijana Fundak just missed out on an NCAA provisional time as she finished 13
th (17:25.50). Both were racing for the first time since leading the Marauders to an 18
th place finish at the 2023 NCAA cross country championships on November 18.
UMary also competed in the Dakota Alumni Classic hosted by North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND. The Marauders finished fourth with a team score of 37.
Tionce Walrond grabbed third place in the 200 after recording a time of 24.74 seconds. Her NCAA provisional qualifying time places her 12
th in the country. Walrond joins teammate
Sakena Massiah on the national qualifying list.
Mara Bruno took 6
th in the 200 after she finished with a time of 25.42.
Tia Horning placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.00 seconds.
Taking fifth in the long jump was
Taylor Weidner, who recorded a 5.55-meter jump. Bruno earned a seventh-place finish after finishing with a mark of 5.32M.
Weidner also finished eighth in the triple jump as the Bismarck, ND, native posted a mark of 10.88 meters.
The Marauders capped off the meet with a runner-up finish in the 4x400 Meter Relay as the team of Walrond,
Laila Cleare, Bruno and
Bernadette Belzer recorded a time of 4:00.95.
UMary returns to competition next month as the Marauders take part in the Bison Cup on Saturday, January 13, in Fargo, ND.
