NEW ORLEANS – Two-time University of Mary national champion D'Andra Morris continues to make history for the Marauders. The first UMary scholar-athlete to win an NCAA championship in a field event, she is now the first Marauder field athlete to claim top academic honors. The US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) named Morris the 2022 NCAA Division II Woman's National Scholar Field Athlete of the Year for both indoor and outdoor seasons, giving her a sweep of both yearly awards.
 
The USTFCCCA press release announcing the indoor and outdoor awards in separate postings on July 13 stated:
 
"D'Andra Morris was named the NCAA Division II Women's Indoor Track & Field National Scholar Field Athlete of the Year. Morris, who maintained a cumulative GPA of 4.0, won the triple jump at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships with a jump of 13.00m (42-8). This is the first time that an athlete from U-Mary has been named National Scholar Field Athlete of the Year for the indoor season."
 
"D'Andra Morris was named the NCAA Division II Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Co-Scholar Field Athlete of the Year. Morris, who maintained a cumulative GPA of 4.0, won the triple jump at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a jump of 13.05m (42-9¾). This is the first time that an athlete from U-Mary has been named National Scholar Field Athlete of the Year for the outdoor season."
  
The USTFCCCA previously had named Morris the organization's 2022 Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, also a first for UMary.
 
Morris won the triple jump title at both the 2022 NCAA Division II Indoor and Outdoor championships. Her winning mark of 13.00 meters at the indoor championships was the 10th best effort all-time in NCAA Division II. The senior from Kingston, Jamaica, was the first UMary scholar-athlete to win an NCAA championship in a field event. Additionally she placed in the long jump at both the indoor and outdoor national meet.
 
Selected as the 2022 USTFCCCA Central Region Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, the 2022 Northern Sun Indoor and Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year and the 2022 NDAPSSA College Female Athlete of the Year, Morris is an 8-time All-American and a 10-time NSIC champion in her Marauders career. Morris is also UMary's first two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America member.
