SEATTLE, WA – Gaining momentum throughout the final meet of the season, University of Mary sophomore
Alyssa Becker kept moving up the standings throughout the race to place 42
nd at the 2022 NCAA Division II women's cross country championships.
In the middle of the pack through the first 600 meter split of the 6K race at the Chambers Creel Regional Park course in Seattle, less than 50 miles from her hometown of Seabeck, WA, Becker jumped 46 places to 75
th at the 2.4K mark.
Continuing to press, the sophomore improved another 24 slots at the 5K marker. Over the last kilometer Becker passed another nine runners to claim 42
nd with a clocking of 21:25.1.
An All-American at the 2021 NCAA championships, Becker missed duplication that feat in 2022 by two slots and 4.3 seconds. One of 13 UMary runners to earn NCAA cross country All-American honors in program history, her pursuit of becoming the 7
th Marauder to earn the honor multiple times starts anew next season.
A total of 262 runners finished the 2022 championship race. Among Northern Sun competitors she placed 7
th. Becker was 10
th among runners from the Central Region to match her placing at the regional meet two weeks prior.
