BROOKINGS, SD – Behind the power of five individual titles, the University of Mary women's track & field team finished second overall in the team standings at the D2 Invite. The meet featured competitors from over 20 schools across the upper Midwest.
UMary rolled up 134 points on the day facing several fellow Northern Sun schools plus NCAA Division III and NAIA programs. Minnesota State won the team title with 171 points. Northwestern (IA) was a distant third with 50 points.
Arianna Passeri continued her tremendous season as she Marauders lone NCAA provisional qualifying mark of the day. Ranked fourth in the nation entering the weekend in the long jump, the junior captured the title at the D2 Invite with a top effort of 5.67 meters.
Additionally Passeri finished seventh in the 60 meter dash as she ran the event for the first time this season. Her top time on the day was 7.85 seconds in the preliminaries.
Pushing Passeri in the long jump was teammate
Samoya Neil. The freshman tied her best mark of the season with a mark of 5.63 meters.
Alyssa Becker dominated the 3000 meter run. The freshman All-American distance runner won the event by over 30 seconds with her time of 10:10.88.
Taryn Ceglowski claimed a pair of top five finishes in a pair of middle distance events. The senior topped the field in the mile by nearly eight seconds with a time of 5:09.46. The Salida, CO, native also had a 5
th place finish in the 800 meter run, crossing the finish line in 2:18.54.
Elizabeth Acheson led the Marauders to a big day in the 600 meter run. One of the top 800 meter runners in the nation, the All-American posted a winning time of 1:33.59 in the 600.
Ava Grimm claimed second place with a clocking of 1:35.74.
Grace Acheson (1:38.02) and
Rachael Neu (1:38.91) went 4-5 in the event.
Tereza Bolibruch continued her strong start to the season by posting the top time of the day in the 60 meter hurdles. After claiming the top time in the preliminaries, Bollibruch cleared the barriers in 8.90 seconds in the finals for the win.
In one of the most hotly contested events of the day,
Courtney Dembrowski placed 3
rd in the 800 in a time of 2:17.71, just 0.31 seconds off the winning mark.
A big day in the distance events continued in the 5000 meter run as
Starlynn Costa was one of four Marauders in the top seven. Costa claimed second place overall with a clocking of 17:55.28, finishing just ahead of teammate
Lacey Feist (17:56.31).
Andrijana Fundak (18:05.11) placed 6
th and
Ellen Moore (18:13.15) was 7
th.
The Marauders 4x400 meter relay team of
Danalee Brock,
Morgan Hertz,
Ava Grimm and
Elizabeth Acheson finished second out of 23 teams with a time of 3:58.85.
Cali Modglin finished third in the triple jump, posting a top mark of the day of 11.20 meters.
