THIS WEEK
The 2021 regular season wraps up this week with five straight home games for the University of Mary baseball team. The Marauders host St. Cloud State University in a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday, May 5. First pitch is set for 1:30 pm. UMary then hosts Northern State University on Friday and Saturday, May 7-8. Friday's twin bill starts at 1:30 pm. Saturday is Senior Day with a single 9-inning game starting at 12 noon. All home games are played at Municipal Ballpark.

FAN ATTENDANCE POLICY
The University of Mary baseball team will play with fans in the stands. Admittance is free to the general public and is limited to the first 100 spectators, including UMary students, faculty and staff... An additional amount of fans will also be admitted if they are on the Family & Friends list submitted by the Marauders baseball program or the Visiting Fans list determined by the opposing head coach… The gates open one hour prior to first pitch… Masking is required for all spectators in attendance regardless of state and local guidance. Additionally, fans must follow all Covid-19 safety, sanitation, and social distancing guidelines.

Catch your Marauders live on the radio this week. Voice of the Marauders Jesse Rostvedt will call the action for the UMary-SCSU doubleheader on Fox Sports 710 on Wednesday, May 5. Pregame is set for 1:15 pm… On Saturday, May 8, Jesse Rostvedt bring you the action of the Marauders-Wolves game on 550 KFYR starting at 11:45 am.

PLAYOFF PUSH
Pursuing what would be the Marauders first Northern Sun playoff appearance in program history, the Marauders enter the season's final week in seventh place with five games left to play. The Marauders are 14-13 in league play. The top eight teams in the final standings qualify for the NSIC tournament.

Based on winning percentage, Minnesota State (24-5/.828) is first in the NSIC, followed by Minnesota Crookston (17-6/.739), Augustana (24-9/.727), St. Cloud State (17-8/.680), Minot State (18-11/.621), Winona State (18-12/.600) and UMary (14-13/.519). Tied for 8
th place in the 15-team league is Sioux Falls and Northern State. Both the Cougars and the Wolves are 14-16 overall with a .467 winning percentage. The Marauders swept the Cougars earlier this season and will host a three-game set against the Wolves this weekend.

The 2021 NSIC Baseball Tournament is a two-week format. The tournament will begin on May 13-14 with a best of three game series hosted by the top four seeds (one 9-inning game Thursday and Friday with a second 9-inning game if necessary on Friday).

CONGRATULATIONS JAY FLAA
University of Mary baseball alum Jay Flaa made his debut with the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday, April 27, to become the first former Marauders scholar-athlete to play a game in Major League Baseball.
Additionally Flaa becomes the first former University of Mary scholar-athlete to play in a regular season game in any of the major professional sports leagues in North America (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS). A righthanded relief pitcher for the Orioles, the Mandan, ND, native pitched for UMary as a freshman in 2011. He started ten games for the Marauders, completed one, earned a victory and struck out 39 hitters in 49.1 innings. Flaa transferred to NCAA Division I North Dakota State University and was drafted by the Orioles in the in the 6th round of the 2015 draft… Flaa pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief in a 5-1 loss for Baltimore against the visiting New York Yankees. He induced former National League Most Valuable player Giancarlo Stanton to ground into a double play and struck out former American League home run champion Aaron Judge for the final out.

The Marauders will honor eight seniors from 2021 and two from 2020 on Senior Day this Saturday, May 8, following the UMary-Northern State game. The 2021 senior class includes

The Marauders are 17-17 overall and 14-13 in Northern Sun play. UMary is 7th in the league standings… SCSU is 19-11 and 17-8 in NSIC play (4

LAST WEEK
After dropping a doubleheader at Bemidji State, the Marauders rebounded to earn a series win at Southwest Minnesota State. UMary swept the doubleheader on Saturday 7-0 and 18-14 before falling 6-5 in extra innings on Sunday.

RECORD PERFORMANCE
Calvin James' offensive outburst in the Marauders 18-14 extra inning win at Southwest Minnesota State is one of the best-ever performances for a Marauders hitter. The second-year freshman finished he game 5-for-7 with two home runs and a double. He drove in six runs and scored three runs. James set or tied several UMary NCAA-era program records. The Buffalo, MN, native established new team marks for RBIs (6) and total bases (12) and tied the marks for home runs (2) and hits (5). Â Â

For the second straight start
Austin Wagner keyed a Marauders shutout. The dominant lefthander teamed with
Mitch Oehme for a 7-0 shutout at Southwest Minnesota State. Wagner pitched a season-high six innings, striking our four while limiting the Mustangs to two hits, one walk and no runs. Oehme struck out two while pitching a scoreless seventh inning… The previous week Wagner pitched 5.0 perfect innings in a 10-0 win over the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs.

After winning his first six starts of the season, Jonathon Draheim owns a record of 6-1. The sophomore righthander's six wins is a UMary NCAA-era (2007 and on) single season record. The previous record was five by Matt Medeiros (2010) and Jeff Skadeland (2013)… The school record for single season wins is 10 by Marauders Hall of Famer Ryan Astle in 2002.

DRAHEIM BY THE NUMBERS
Jonathan Draheim is 6-1 with a 3.68 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 44 innings. In seven starts he has allowed just 42 hits and 4 walks while striking out 30 hitters… He has four complete games and has gone fewer than six innings just once… In NCAA D2 he ranks 9th in complete games (4), 6th in walks/9 innings (0.82), 39
th in wins (6), 59th in WHIP (1.05) and 26th in strikeouts-to-walks ratio (7.50)… Draheim's no-hit effort against Upper Iowa (4-0 win, 7 IP, 5Ks, 2 HBP, 0 BB, pitched six straight perfect innings to close game) was the fourth in school history (Roger Wuertz vs. Graceland College in 1998, Michael Allen vs. Minnesota-Crookston in 2007 and Shane Trattles vs. Penn State-Beaver in 2014)… he retired the first 16 batters he faced in his season-opener at Southwest Baptist and retired 19 straight hitters in his no-hitter against Upper Iowa in his no-hitter.

•            Through 34 games the Marauders have blasted 41 home runs to establish a new NCAA-era record. The former mark was 38 in 2008. The school record is 48 in 2000.

Calvin James has hit two home runs in a single game three times this season and
Ty Jones has hit two homers in a game twice this season to tie the Marauders single-game NCAA-era school record. This has happened just 14 times since 2007. James accounts for four of the occurrences.

Ty Jones and
Calvin James both have nine home runs this season and are tied for the fifth-best mark in the Marauders NCAA era. Tyler Liffrig owns the top mark with 11 (2008 and 2009).
Darius Barlas (2019) and Michael Feldman (2008) both connected for ten. Andy Leer and Liffrig both hit nine in 2009. Â The school record is 12 by Steve Laasko in 1998.
•            The Marauders blasted four solo shots in the 5-3 win at Concordia-St. Paul. The four home runs are the second-most the Marauders have hit in a game since beginning NCAA play in 2007, bested only by the six UMary hit against Upper Iowa on April 28, 2007.

Austin Wagner, a transfer from NCAA Division I Abilene Christian, has had four dominant outings in his six starts this season for the Marauders. For the season Wagner has a 2.30 ERA and a 0.80 WHIP covering 27.1 innings. He has 30 Ks and has allowed just 15 hits and seven walks… Wagner has pitched 12 straight scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out 15 during this run. Â
