BISMARCK, ND – Former University of Mary baseball player and 2024 Northern Sun Freshman of the Year Carter Beck was selected in the first round of the 2026 Major League Baseball draft by the Atlanta Braves.
 
Beck, who played one season for the Marauders before playing the last two seasons at Indiana State University, is the third former UMary player to be selected in the MLB draft. He was taken 26^th overall in the draft with the second Braves' pick of the first round, awarded to Atlanta as a Prospect Promotion Incentive Pick after Drake Baldwin was named the 2026 National League Rookie of the Year.  
 
Andy Leer was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 25^th round of the 2010 MLB draft after playing four seasons for UMary. Jay Flaa, who played his freshman season for the Marauders in 2011 before transferring to North Dakota State University, was chosen in the 6^th round of the 2015 draft by the Baltimore Orioles. Flaa become the first former Marauders scholar-athlete to play a regular season game in any of the major professional sports leagues in North America made his major league debut in 2021 for the Orioles.  
 
The University of Mary Male Rookie of the Year in 2024, Beck was named to the All-NSIC second team after hitting .355/.432/.634 for a 1.066 OPS with 10 doubles, three triples, 12 home runs, 53 RBIs and 50 runs scored. Beck was a perfect 11-for-11 when stealing bases, including a steal of home. He led the Marauders in runs scored and RBIs as the team tied the program record for home runs.
 
At Indiana State, Beck was named the 2026 Missouri Valley Conference Joe Carter Player of the Year, earned first team Missouri Valley all-conference and all-defensive team recognition and was selected for all-region honors. The native of Carnduff, Saskatchewan, Canada, was also a first team all-conference performer for the Sycamores in 2025.
