MANKATO, MN –
Ty Jones cracked two home runs and drove in five runs to pace the University of Mary attack in a 9-6 Marauders loss to the homestanding Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks.
Spencer Gillund also homered for the Marauders, who now have hit eight home runs in their first three Northern Sun games of the season.
PIVOT POINT
Marauders starting pitcher
Daniel Turner was on the verge of escaping the first inning without allowing a run after turning a double play with two runners on and no outs. Instead, a two-out walk followed by a 3-run home run by Adam Schneider gave the Mavericks a lead they wouldn't relinquish. After back-to-back home runs by Jones and Gillund in the top of the second pulled the Marauders within 3-2, the Mavericks scored the next four runs to pull away.
