Severe weather postpones opening day of 2021 NCAA swimming championships

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Severe weather interrupted today's opening session of the 2021 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving championships. After the University of Mary's Andrea Lee and Victoria Murillo completed the 1000 yard freestyle but prior to all 27 competitors completing the event, the City of Birmingham closed the CrossPlex, home site of the championships.
 
Any remaining scheduled events for day one on Wednesday have been moved to Thursday, with a start time of 11 am. Additionally there will be no preliminaries on Thursday as all events will be timed finals. Thursday's events will now be timed finals starting at 7 pm.
 
Lee and Murillo will learn how they finished in the 1000 free as soon as the remaining swimmers complete the race.
 
Murillo and Lee are both expected to race in the 200 free on Thursday night timed finals session. Additionally Abbey Zajdzinzki will compete in the 100 fly.
 
Schedules for Friday and Saturday have not changed at this time, with preliminaries set for 10 am and finals to start at 6 pm. Murillo and Lee compete in the 500 free on Friday and Zajdzinski swims in the 200 fly. Lee is the only Marauders swimmer racing on Saturday when she competes in the 1650 free.
