Box Score 2 DULUTH, MN – The University of Mary tennis team completed their weekend sweep after they defeated the University of Minnesota Duluth 4-3.
"Our opponents were very consistent. Everyone in our singles matches worked hard to earn their points," UMary Head Coach Vida Saliendra said.
The final match came down to Heidi Jacobson who got the Marauders the win after she defeated Isabel Thiner 7-5, 6-3 in number six singles. Jacobson was down 4-5 in the first set before she was able to rally back and pick up the win.
"I give a lot of credit to Heidi as she stayed calm in the deciding match," Saliendra said.
The Marauders won all three doubles matches to earn one team point. Tasha Dembo and Yusra Hegy were spectacular in number one doubles 6-0. Kelsey Lajom and Jamie Stoppler won in number two doubles 6-2. Heidi Jacobson and Kali Askvig closed out doubles play winning 6-2.
Tasha Dembo continued her great week as she earned a victory over Sophie Lynch, winning 6-4, 6-2 in number one singles.
Yusra Hegy lost a close match in number two singles as she was defeated by Natalie Cahill 4-6, 4-6.
Jamie Stoppler lost another tight match to Mallory Lithun 5-7, 3-6 in number three singles.
In number four singles Kelsey Lajom was dominant over Emily Rahrik 6-2, 6-1.
Kali Askvig lost her match to Shay Calaway 2-6, 1-6, 1-0 in number five singles.
The Marauders next match will at home as they will take on MSU Moorhead on Saturday, March 13, at 12:30 pm.
