Box Score FARGO, ND- The University of Mary tennis team was excellent in their matchup against Upper Iowa University as they swept the Peacocks 7-0.
"I'm happy with our performance today. We did a good job at making adjustments to our opponents' style of play," head coach
Vida Saliendra said.
The Marauders claimed all three doubles matches to earn one team point.
Tasha Dembo and
Yusra Hegy owned number one doubles 6-1.
Kelsey Lajom and
Jamie Stoppler took number two doubles 6-4.
Heidi Jacobson and
Kali Askvig rounded out doubles play with a 6-2 win in number three doubles.
Tasha Dembo defeated Varvara Ogorodnikova in a hard-fought match, winning 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 in number one singles.
Yusra Hegy won a close match in number two singles to Lina Ziani 6-4, 6-3.
Jamie Stoppler won another tight contest as she defeated Jessa Michieli 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 in number three singles.
In number four singles
Kelsey Lajom was dominant as she won 6-0, 6-1.
Kali Askvig defeated Mya Herrmann 6-2, 6-3 in number five singles.
Heidi Jacobson closed things out for UMary as she pitched a shutout over Elaina Wall.
"We play another tough match tomorrow so everyone has to stay focused," said Saliendra.
The Marauders next match will be on Sunday, February 21, at 9 am against Winona State University in Fargo, ND.
