BISMARCK, ND - University of Mary men's basketball coach
Joe Kittell has added an all-conference junior college guard to his 2019 recruiting class. Glen Jordan from Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, CA, is the fifth scholar-athlete to commit to the Marauders for the upcoming season, a class that includes four incoming freshmen who signed with the Marauders in November.
Â
A native of Tacoma, WA, Jordan is a 6-1 guard who earned first team All-Western State North Conference honors this past season as a sophomore at Allan Hancock after he led his team to a 23-7 record after averaging 12 points and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 47 percent from the field and 35 percent behind the three-point line. As a freshmen Jordan helped lead Allan Hancock to the Elite 8 and earned All-Conference honorable mention recognition after he averaged 10.6 points and 4.3 assists per game and shot 36 percent from 3-point range. Jordan played high school basketball in Tacoma, WA, at Curtis High School.
Â
"Glenn is a proven winner!" stated Coach Kittell. "He had tremendous success at one of the best junior college programs in California and is a versatile guard that can score and distribute the basketball. We got exactly what we were looking for with Glenn."
Â
"I'm excited for the relationships I will build over these next two years with my teammates and coaches that will last a lifetime," said Jordan. "I look forward to coming in and doing whatever I can to help get to a championship pedigree. I choose UMary because I believe in the vision the coaching staff and it felt like a place where I could excel academically, athletically and spiritually."
Â
"Glenn has been a leader in every sense of the word since he first stepped foot on our campus," said Allan Hancock College head coach Tyson Aye. "He's been instrumental in transforming the positive culture of our program and campus. We love Glenn, we're proud of him, and we can't wait to follow him at UMary."
Â
Joining Jordan on the UMary campus this fall are Matthew Johnson, Treyton Mattern, Regan Tollefson, and Logan Nagorski, whose signings were previously announced in November.
Â
Matthew Johnson comes to UMary after he reached 1,250 points, which ranks 8th all time in Fergus Falls, MN, history. The Fergus Falls native was a four-year letterwinner, senior captain and a two-time All-Central Lakes conference player. He is also participating in the Minnesota All-Star Game and was a Minnesota Mr. Basketball and Gatorade Player of Year finalist.
Â
"Matt is such a tough kid!" said Marauders head coach
Joe Kittell. "We needed to add a guard in this class that was tough, could handle it, and could score. Matt fits all three categories and then some! Matt had multiple Division II offers and we are very fortunate to get him into our program."
Â
Treyton Mattern is a local kid that left his mark on North Dakota basketball history. The Bismarck native was a North Dakota Mr. Basketball finalist and Co-West Region Senior Athlete of the Year. Mattern led the state in scoring with 23.8 points per game and broke the Bismarck Century High School single season scoring record with 642 points. He was also a nominated Gatorade Player of the Year.
Â
"We are getting a proven winner with this signing!" said Marauders head coach
Joe Kittell. "Treyton has won a baseball, football and basketball state title during his high school career at Bismarck Century. His experience with a winning culture is what we need to continue to develop our program.
Â
"It's awesome to get Treyton to stay in Bismarck and play for his parent's alma matter. His dad, Darren, played during one of the greatest eras of UMary men's basketball in the early '90's for Coach Rod Jonas. His mom, Gerene, is a Marauders Hall of Famer from her time with the track & field program."
Â
Regan Tollefson had a great season for Chanhassen (MN) High School, earning All-Conference and All-Conference Defensive Team honors. He was voted best team player by his team after finishing the season averaging 16 points, seven rebounds, two assists and 1.5 steals per game.
Â
"Regan is really high IQ and skilled basketball player," said Marauders head coach
Joe Kittell. "Regan is a high character and work ethic kid that can pass, score, rebound, and has great length to be a very good defender. We got a steal with him."
Â
A four-year letter winner, Logan Nagorski capped his senior season averaging 21 points per game. The Big Lake, MN, native is a three-time Mississippi 8 All-Conference selection. He also finished as a member of the 1,000 point club, scoring over 1,300 career points while grabbing 500 rebounds, too. He was a 2019 McDonald Award Semi-Finalist and earned a spot in the Minnesota All-Star Game.
Â
"Logan is a high energy kid that loves to play basketball," said Marauders head coach
Joe Kittell. "He has a real knack for scoring and we are excited to see his development in our program."
