UMary Women's Basketball Hits The Road This Weekend For Games Against Peacocks And Warriors

THIS WEEKEND
The University of Mary women's basketball team takes to the road this weekend for their first two games of a four game road stretch. The Marauders will first head to Fayette, IA to take on Upper Iowa on February 8 at 5:30 PM. They will follow that up with a game against Winona State on Saturday, February 9 at 3:30 PM in Winona, MN.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The last time UMary took to the court was for two big home games against two top tier NSIC opponents. The Marauders came out victorious in both games. In game one of the weekend a 34 point, 20 rebound performance by Cassie Askvig led the Marauders to a 65-60 win over Wayne State. UMary then took down Augustana by a score of 68-62. Askvig and Bohl both posted double-doubles. Askvig recorded 16 points and 15 rebounds while Bohl recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds. Williams and Dvorak both posted double-digit points on the day as well.
 
THE RECORD
The Marauders are 13-6 overall and 11-5 in NSIC play.
 
OPPO RESEARCH – UPPER IOWA
Upper Iowa comes in with a 3-21 record this season with an 0-16 record in NSIC play. The Peacocks are currently on a 17 game losing streak. Natalie Dinius leads UIU with 9.0 points per game. Seven Peacocks average four or more points per game.
 
 
HISTORY LESSON
The Marauders are 14-3 all-time against the Peacocks… UMary lost the first meeting between the schools at Fayette, IA, on Dec. 1,  2006, the Marauders first-ever NSIC game… The Marauders are 9-0 at home and 5-3 on the road.
 
LAST MEETING
The last time the Marauders and Peacocks met was during the 2017-18 season when the Marauders dominated by a score of 73-38. Cassie Askvig led the way with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Bohl added another 20 points. UMary was dominant on defense, posting nine steals and six blocks. The Marauders shot over 50 percent from the floor and nearly 44 percent from three.
 
OPPO RESEARCH – WINONA STATE
Winona State comes in with an 11-9 record, going 9-7 so far in conference play. The Warriors boast a 5-2 record on the home court. Three Warriors average double digit points. Kayla Schaefer leads the way averaging 11.1 PPG. Gabie Doud pitches in 10.5 and Rachel Novotny adds 10.4 to go along with her team leading 7.3 RPG. The Warriors allow less than 60 points per game. One of only seven teams in the NSIC that do so.  
 
 
HISTORY LESSON
The Marauders are 9-11 all-time against the Warriors… UMary is 8-3 at home and WSU is 8-1 on its home court… In the NSIC tournament UMary is 2-2 against WSU with both wins coming at home. UMary won playoff games at home 76-67 in 2010 and 72-66 in 2014 before falling 64-59 in 2017. Winona State won at home in 2015 (67-62)
  
LAST MEETING 
The last time UMary and WSU met, the Marauders came out victorious by a score of 81-64. Gabbie Bohl, Cassie Askvig, Lauren Rotunda, Christal Hearn and Macy Williams all recorded double-digit points on the game. Bohl led the way with 25 points and nine rebounds. Rotunda had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds and Macy Williams had 10 points and seven assists.
 
  
FAST BREAK
•   The Marauders start a four game road stretch this weekend.

•   The Marauders average 5.5 more assists per game than opponents

•   Cassie Askvig scored her 1,000th career point against Augustana last weekend.
  
GETTING BUCKETS
UMary is third in the Northern Sun in points per game averaging 72.5. The Marauders have a plus 6.4 scoring margin over the opponents which ranks seventh in the Northern Sun. Cassie Askvig is first in the conference in scoring, averaging 18.9 PPG. Right behind her in second in the NSIC is Gabbie Bohl who averages 18.8 PPG. The Marauders rank first in the conference in field goal percentage (45.3). Two Marauders rank in the top five in individual field goal percentage. Askvig ranks second with a field goal percentage of 51.4 percent. Bohl sits right in behind her in fifth with a field goal percentage of 49.4 percent. The Marauders ranks 23rd in the nation if field goal percentage offense! Askvig ranks 34th in the nation individually in scoring and Bohl ranks 37th.
 
A HELPING PASS
The Marauders sure know how to share the ball. The team ranks first in the conference in assists, averaging 16 assists per game. Macy Williams ranks second in the conference averaging 3.9 assists per game. She ranks tied for second in the conference in assists/turnover ratio. Tonya Dvorak and Cassie Askvig are tied for 18th in the conference averaging 2.4 assists per game.
 
DEEEE-FENSE
The Marauders allow just 66.1 points/game, ninth in the NSIC. Teams are making just 38.4 percent of their shots against UMary, ranking them seventh in the conference in field goal percentage defense.
 
REJECTION
The Marauders are eighth in the NSIC in blocked shots at 3.42/game. Gabbie Bohl ranks ninth in the NSIC averaging 1.3 blocks per game. Tonya Dvorak ranks 13th averaging just under 1 block per game. 
 
DOWNTOWN
Averaging 7.2 treys/game, the Marauders rank fourth in the NSIC. Shooting 36.1 percent from behind the arc, UMary is first in the conference in three point shooting percentage. Coral Gillette leads the conference averaging 2.4 three pointers per game
 
CHARITY STRIPE
Shooting 73.1 percent from the free throw line as a team this season the Marauders rank sixth in the NSIC. Cassie Askvig ranks fourth in the conference shooting 84.8 percent from the line. Gabbie Bohl is shooting 68.7 percent from the line to rank her 16th in the conference. Bohl has made 103 free throws this season which ranks her 17th in the country in free throws made.
 
CRASHING THE GLASS
The Marauders rank third in the NSIC in rebounding defense. The Marauders rank fourth in rebounding margin with a plus 4.5 RPG average. Two Marauders rank in the top ten in the conference in rebounds per game. Bohl ranks fifth, averaging 9.8 RPG. Right in front of her in sixth is Askvig who averages 9.6 RPG.
 
1,000 POINTS CLUB
Two Marauders have joined the list of just 19 UMary women's basketball players to score 1,000 career points this season. Gabbie  Bohl became the 18th player to reach the milestone and Cassie Askvig became the 19th. Both players reached their 1,000th career point by knocking down a free throw to convert on a three point play. Bohl scored her 1,000th career point during the first game of her junior year and Askvig during the 19th game of her junior year. 
 
  
CLIMBING THE ALL TIME RANKINGS
Gabbie Bohl and Cassie Askvig became the 18th and 19th Marauders to score their 1,000th career point. Bohl reached the milestone just one game into her junior year. Askvig hit the milestone 19 games into her junior year. Bohl has since moved into 9th on the all time rankings with a total of 1,335 career points. She recently passed Natalie Brunner (2001-05). Bohl will be tracking down Andrea Ronderos (2003-06) who scored 1,407 career points. The junior forward has moved into 13th all time in career rebounds with 552. Cassie Askvig joins Bohl in the top 15 all time in career rebounds ranking 13th with 565. Askvig also moves into 19th all time in points scored with 1,006.
 
NEARING MILESTONES
The UMary women's basketball program is nearing 700 wins. The Marauders need just six more wins to reach this mark.

Head Coach Rick Neumann reached his 100th career win when the Marauders took down the Golden Eagles of Minnesota Crookston on January 25.
 
 
NSIC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gabbie Bohl and Cassie Askvig (x2) both have won NSIC Player of the Week this season. Bohl won the award for her 28.5 PPG and 13.5 RPG performance over a two game stretch. Askvig was given the award for her 18.5 PPG and 15.5 RPG performance over the past weekend. Askvig earned the award for a second time when she averaged 25 PPG and 17.5 RPG while recording career highs of 34 points and 20 rebounds against WSC. 
 
YOUNG BUT EXPERIENCED
The UMary women's basketball team features no seniors. What the Marauders lack in seniors they make up for in experience. Several of the current players have been making a big impact for the Marauders since they were freshman, including Gabbie Bohl who was named NSIC freshman of the year her freshman year, first team All-NSIC her sophomore year, and is the NSIC north preseason player of the year this season. 
 
LIVING UP TO EXPECTATIONS
Big expectations surround Gabbie Bohl coming into this season. The junior was named the NSIC North Preseason Player of the Year and has shown exactly why she received that honor so far this season. Bohl is averaging 18.8 PPG, 9.8 RPG, and 1.3 BPG. She was named the NSIC player of the week for her performance the weekend of December 7-8. She was named to the WWU Lynda Goodrich Classic All-Tournament Team for her performance in the teams two games in Washington. Bohl recorded her 1,000 career point in her first game of her senior year when she got a bucket and drew the foul. She would convert on the three point play to give herself 1,000 career points.
