Marauders Women's Basketball Hosts NSU And MSUM In Final Regular Season Games

THIS WEEKEND
The University of Mary women's basketball team closes out the regular season this weekend with two home games. The Marauders will first host Northern State at 5:30 PM on Friday, February 22. They will follow that up with a game against the NSIC's top team MSU Moorhead on Saturday, February 23 at 3:30 PM. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
The last time UMary took the court was for two big conference wins over UMC and BSU. The Marauders dominated Bemidji State with a 73-53 victory. Cassie Askvig led the way with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Coral Gillette knocked down five three pointers to record 15 points. Gabbie Bohl added 12 points and five rebounds. The Marauders then took down Minnesota Crookston by a score of 63-58. Gabbie Bohl led the way with 18 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks. Cassie Askvig added 17 points, nine rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block. Coral Gillette knocked down another three, three pointers to pitch in eleven points. 
 
THE RECORD
The Marauders are 16-7 overall and 14-6 in NSIC play.
 
OPPO RESEARCH – NORTHERN STATE
The Wolves come into the game against the Marauders with a 9-17 record, going 6-14 in NSIC play. NSU has struggled on the road going 2-7. The Wolves have lost 9 of their last 10 games this season. NSU is led by Brianna Kusler who averages a double-double with 11.1 PPG and 10.0 RPG.
 
HISTORY LESSON
The Marauders are 10-15 against the Wolves since the 2006-07 season… UMary ended a three game losing streak to the Wolves with their win earlier this season... 
 
 
LAST MEETING
The last time the Marauders and Wolves met was earlier this season when UMary took down NSU 78-71. A very efficient Cassie Askvig led the team with 28 points off of 9-11 shooting from the field, 2-3 from deep, and 8-8 from the charity stripe. Jordyn Jossart pitched in 12 points.
 
OPPO RESEARCH – MINNESOTA STATE MOORHEAD
The Dragons are the number one team in the NSIC with a record of 21-5, going 17-3 in the conference. All three of their conference losses have come in the last eight games. MSUM was ranked fourth in the first central region rankings this season. Three Dragons average double-digits on the season. Megan Hintz leads the way averaging a double-double with 14.9 PPG and 10.3 RPG. Kiley Borowicz averages 14.8 PPG. Jacky Volkert leads to conference with 4.4 assists per game to go along with her 12.8 PPG. 
 
 
HISTORY LESSON
The Marauders are 8-16 against the Dragons since 2006-07… MSUM has won the last seven meetings... The Marauders last win was a 69-64 home victory on Jan. 9, 2015, behind 17 points, 11 rebounds and five assists from Brittney Dietz… UMary is 5-6 against MSUM at the McDowell Activity Center and 3-9 on the road at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.
  
LAST MEETING
In their first road game of the season this year, the Marauders fell to the Dragons by a score of 76-68. Gabbie Bohl posted a big double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Macy Williams added 21 points and Cassie Askvig pitched in 13.

•   The Marauders recorded a winning record in NSIC road games this season.

PLAYOFF PICTURE
The Marauders have clinched a first round home playoff game. UMary will host an NSIC opponent on Wednesday, February 27 at 6 PM in the McDowell Activity Center. The standings are too close to determine exactly who UMary will be playing. Come the conclusion of play of Saturday night, UMary will know who their opponent will be. The theme of the playoff game will be a white out so come dressed in all your white Marauders apparel.
 
NO SENIOR SQUAD
Senior night is usually hosted on the final home game of the season but in the case of the Marauders there is no need to celebrate this day because the team features no seniors. The team is made up of five juniors, four sophomores, and eight freshman.  
  
GETTING BUCKETS
UMary is fourth in the Northern Sun in points per game averaging 71.2. The Marauders have a plus 6.4 scoring margin over the opponents which ranks seventh in the Northern Sun. Cassie Askvig is first in the conference in scoring, averaging 18.5 PPG. Right behind her in third in the NSIC is Gabbie Bohl who averages 17.8 PPG. The Marauders rank first in the conference and 23rd in the nation in field goal percentage (45.5). Two Marauders rank in the top five in individual field goal percentage. Askvig ranks third with a field goal percentage of 50.3 percent. Bohl sits right in behind her in fifth with a field goal percentage of 48.5 percent.
 
A HELPING PASS
The Marauders sure know how to share the ball. The team ranks third in the conference in assists, averaging 15.3 assists per game. Macy Williams ranks second in the conference averaging 3.8 assists per game. She ranks seventh in the conference in assists/turnover ratio. Tonya Dvorak ranks 16th with 2.6 assists per game. Askvig ranks tied for 19th with 2.3 assists per game.
 
DEEEE-FENSE
The Marauders allow just 64.7 points/game, ninth in the NSIC. Teams are making just 38.3 percent of their shots against UMary, ranking them sixth in the conference in field goal percentage defense.
 
REJECTION
The Marauders are tied for sixth in the NSIC in blocked shots at 3.57/game. Gabbie Bohl ranks tenth in the NSIC averaging 1.3 blocks per game. Tonya Dvorak ranks tied for 12th averaging just under 1 block per game. 
 
DOWNTOWN
Averaging 7.0 treys/game, the Marauders rank fifth in the NSIC. Shooting 36.7 percent from behind the arc, UMary is first in the conference in three point shooting percentage and 20th in the nation. Coral Gillette leads the conference averaging 2.5 three pointers per game
 
CHARITY STRIPE
Shooting 73.1 percent from the free throw line as a team this season the Marauders rank seventh in the NSIC. Cassie Askvig ranks tied for fifth in the conference shooting 84.2 percent from the line. Gabbie Bohl is shooting 68.3 percent from the line to rank her 13th in the conference. Bohl leads to conference in free throws attempted with 164.
 
CRASHING THE GLASS
The Marauders rank second in the NSIC in rebounding defense. The Marauders rank fifth in rebounding margin with a plus 3.9 RPG average. Two Marauders rank in the top ten in the conference in rebounds per game. Askvig ranks fifth, averaging 9.5 RPG. Right behind her in sixth is Bohl who averages 9.3 RPG.
 
1,000 POINTS CLUB
Two Marauders have joined the list of just 19 UMary women's basketball players to score 1,000 career points this season. Gabbie  Bohl became the 18th player to reach the milestone and Cassie Askvig became the 19th. Both players reached their 1,000th career point by knocking down a free throw to convert on a three point play. Bohl scored her 1,000th career point during the first game of her junior year and Askvig during the 19th game of her junior year. 
 
  
CLIMBING THE ALL TIME RANKINGS
Gabbie Bohl and Cassie Askvig became the 18th and 19th Marauders to score their 1,000th career point. Bohl reached the milestone just one game into her junior year. Askvig hit the milestone 19 games into her junior year. Bohl has since moved into 9th on the all time rankings with a total of 1,388 career points. She recently passed Natalie Brunner (2001-05). Bohl will be tracking down Andrea Ronderos (2003-06) who scored 1,407 career points. The junior forward has moved into 10th all time in career rebounds with 603. Cassie Askvig joins Bohl in the top 15 all time in career rebounds ranking 11th with 591. Askvig also moves into 18th all time in points scored with 1,055.
 
NEARING MILESTONES
The UMary women's basketball program is nearing 700 wins. The Marauders need just three more wins to reach this mark.

Head Coach Rick Neumann reached his 100th career win when the Marauders took down the Golden Eagles of Minnesota Crookston on January 25.
 
 
NSIC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gabbie Bohl and Cassie Askvig (x2) both have won NSIC Player of the Week this season. Bohl won the award for her 28.5 PPG and 13.5 RPG performance over a two game stretch. Askvig was given the award for her 18.5 PPG and 15.5 RPG performance over the past weekend. Askvig earned the award for a second time when she averaged 25 PPG and 17.5 RPG while recording career highs of 34 points and 20 rebounds against WSC. 
 
YOUNG BUT EXPERIENCED
The UMary women's basketball team features no seniors. What the Marauders lack in seniors they make up for in experience. Several of the current players have been making a big impact for the Marauders since they were freshman, including Gabbie Bohl who was named NSIC freshman of the year her freshman year, first team All-NSIC her sophomore year, and is the NSIC north preseason player of the year this season. 
 
LIVING UP TO EXPECTATIONS
Big expectations surround Gabbie Bohl coming into this season. The junior was named the NSIC North Preseason Player of the Year and has shown exactly why she received that honor so far this season. Bohl is averaging 18.8 PPG, 9.8 RPG, and 1.3 BPG. She was named the NSIC player of the week for her performance the weekend of December 7-8. She was named to the WWU Lynda Goodrich Classic All-Tournament Team for her performance in the teams two games in Washington. Bohl recorded her 1,000 career point in her first game of her senior year when she got a bucket and drew the foul. She would convert on the three point play to give herself 1,000 career points.
