THIS WEEK
After playing six straight home games, the University of Mary hits the road this weekend for the first time in a month. UMary first faces MSU Moorhead on Friday, Dec. 14. Tipoff is set for 7:30 pm at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, MN. The next day the Marauders visit Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. Game time is 6 pm at Wachs Arena.  
 
THE RECORD
The Marauders are 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the Northern Sun overall and the Northern Sun North division.
 
LAST WEEKEND
The Marauders opened the weekend with a 76-64 loss to visiting St. Cloud State University. The UMary offense stalled in the last six minutes, missing 12 straight shots as SCSU closed the game on a 21-7 run. 
Jaylan White led UMary with 18 points and 
Wyatt Carr scored 11 off the bench. Gage Davis led SCSU with 25 points and 14 rebounds… UMary reversed its fortunes the next day with a 73-70 overtime win over Minnesota Duluth when 
Dennis Austin III hit a three-pointer with 0.2 seconds left in overtime. Down eight points with under six minutes to play, the Marauders charged back to force overtime. The key basket in regulation was a 4-point play by White, who was fouled in the process of hitting a trey and made the free throw to tie the game at 57-57. White hit 5-of-7 treys in the game and scored a career-high 29 points. 
Matthew Kreklow made all ten free throw attempts and scored 18 points while adding six rebounds, three assists and three blocks. Austin scored 11 points in the game.
 
BOOM!
Dennis Austin III knocked down a buzzer-beating three-pointer from the right corner in front of the Marauders bench with 0.2 seconds remaining in overtime to lead the Marauders to a 73-70 home win over Minnesota Duluth. Here's a look at some other late game heroics during the Marauders NCAA era.
	- Marquealis Edwards hit a layup in the final five seconds of a 77-76 win over Southern Arkansas on Nov. 14, 2015
- Marquealis Edwards forced overtime with a layup in the final five seconds to tie the game in a 96-91 win over Minnesota State on Fe. 22, 2016, in the NSIC quarterfinals
- Josh Turner hit a three-pointer with four seconds left in a 73-72 win at Chadron State on Nov. 15, 2011
- Jason West hit a three-pointer with no time on the clock at the end of regulation to force overtime in an 80-77 UMary win at Minnesota Duluth
- Eric Erdmann hit a layup at the buzzer in regulation to force overtime and then hit a layup at the buzzer in overtime to win the game 71-69 at Bemidji State on Jan. 12, 2008
- Bill Shetler drained a long three-pointer from inside the half-court line as time expired in the Marauders 78-75 win over visiting Mayville State on Dec. 15, 2006
- One day later the Marauders defeated visiting University of North Dakota on Dec. 16, 2006, when Jordan Engelhardt hit two free throws with a second remaining in the game
 
RADIO DIAL READJUSTMENT
The broadcast of the Marauders men's and women's basketball games on Friday, Dec. 14, at MSU Moorhead and Saturday, Dec. 15, at Northern State moves down the radio dial to KFYR 550 AM from UMary's traditional home on Fox Sports 710.

The Marauders completed a six-game home stand with five victories, including a pair of Northern Sun wins…. UMary won just two games at home last season.

The Marauders are posting impressive defensive figures. UMary leads Northern Sun teams in scoring defense (62 ppg) and field goal percentage defense (.400) and are 5
th in steals (7.3).

The Marauders stand fourth in NCAA Division II in points allowed (62 ppg) and 27th in field goal percentage defense (.400).
 
R.I.P. TO OPPONENT'S POINT TOTALS
The Marauders defense has undertaken a major Reduction In Points. The Marauders are giving up just 62 points per game, which is 15 less than UMary allowed last season when opponents averaged 77 points per game… The opposition shooting percentage also has taken a tumble. Teams shot .484 against UMary last year, which was 15
th out of 16 teams in the NSIC. This season the Marauders are leading the conference in field goal defense, holding the opposing teams to a shooting percentage of 40 percent.

The Marauders held their opponents to 66 or fewer points through the first six games of the season before Mayville State scored 71 in game seven to break the streak. Last year UMary held opponents to 66 or fewer points just FOUR times in 27 games.
 
FAST BREAK
	- UMary plays its next three games on the road before returning home Jan. 4-5 against Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State
- The Marauders play seven of their next nine games on the road
- The Marauders have forced more turnovers than they have committed in 6-of-9 games

Tom Kubank is second on the Marauders in scoring this season with much of his production from behind the arc. The Adelaide, South Australia, native averages 11.6 points/game and makes 2.3 treys/game, 14th in the NSIC… While his scoring was down last week, Kubank posted 11 assists in three games and had rebounding totals of nine against Mayville State and a career-high 12 against Minnesota Duluth.

Matthew Kreklow is 7th in the NSIC in blocked shots at 1.7/game after swatting away four attempts by the Comets and another three against Minnesota Duluth. He is second on the team in scoring (11.6 ppg) and first in rebounds (5.8 rebounds/game). The post player knocked down all ten of his free throw attempts in a win over Minnesota Duluth and is 29-of-35 at the line to rank 9th in the NSIC in free throw percentage (.829).
 
WHITE NOISE

Jaylan White is a sparkplug for the Marauders on both ends of the court. He was the offensive leader for the Marauders last weekend, scoring 18 points against St. Cloud State before exploding for a career-high 29 points against Minnesota Duluth, including a 5-for-7 performance behind the arc. His assist to turnover ratio is 2.7 to rank 7th in the NSIC. At the line White is 32-of-37 for an .865 free throw percentage, 7th in the league. He is also 13th in assists at 3.6/game. The Marauders point guard averages a team-high 13.4 points/game.
 
OPPO RESEARCH: NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY WOLVES
The NCAA Division II runner-up last year, the Wolves are 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the Northern Sun… Returning starter Ian Smith is averaging 13.0 ppg… Also averaging in double figures are starters G Gabe King (10.1 ppg) and F Justin Decker (11.7 ppg) and reserve Parker Fox (10.9 ppg)… NSU is one of three teams undefeated in NSIC play (Wayne State and Northern State)… Northern State ranks in the top 15 nationally after allowing just 64.1 ppg… The 22nd head coach in Northern State history, Paul Sather is in his 9th season directing the Wolves and has a mark of 162-82. He was head coach at Black Hills State for five years before joining the Wolves for the 2010-11 season.
 
HISTORY LESSON - MARAUDERS v. WOLVES
The Marauders trail the Wolves 26-13 in the all-time series… Recently UMary and NSU have split their series in 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 before the Wolves swept the 2017-18 series… The Wolves have won the last three meetings, including a season sweep in 2017-18… UMary last defeated Northern State 77-75 on Dec. 3, 2016, in Aberdeen, SD, as Bryan Jefferson scored 17 points and Ricky Suggs added 14 off the bench… The Marauders last home win was a 60-58 victory on Dec. 4, 2015. Marquealis Edwards led UMary with 16 points and four steals.
 
OPPO RESEARCH VS. MSU MOORHEAD DRAGONS
The Dragons are 7-4 overall and 1-2 in the NSIC… MSUM is 4-0 at home, scoring at least 90 points in each game… The Dragons have yet to play a home conference game… The Dragons have scored 100 points or more three times this season and rank first in the NSIC in scoring at 90.6 ppg… MSUM also leads the NSIC in field goal percentage (.526) and made 3-pointers (104)… The Dragons have five players who average 10.4 points per game or more: Travaun Coad (15.4), Gavin Baumgartner (15.3), Addison Park (13.3), Bryce Irsfeld (11.3) and Johnny

The Marauders trail the Dragons 19-13 in the all-time series… Since joining the NCAA and NSIC, UMary is 8-17 against MSUM… UMary snapped a 3-game win streak by MSUM in the last meeting between the two teams as

Trevor Zacher 23 in a 77-65 victory on the road Jan. 6, 2018… The Marauders won the first conference match-up 75-72 at MSUM on January 16, 2007… The Dragons followed with five straight wins, including an overtime victory, one win by one point and another by two points… The Marauders snapped the Dragons streak 74-58 at home on Jan. 30, 2010, the first of five straight UMary wins that concluded with a 72-51 win over 19th ranked MSUM on Jan. 7, 2012, at the MAC. It is also the last UMary home win… The Marauders snapped an 8-game losing streak to the Dragons with a 77-73 upset win at 3rd ranked MSUM on January 8, 2016… The Dragons have won six straight at the MAC.
 
THE BORTKE COURT MAC ATTACK
The Marauders opened up their home schedule with a pair of wins this season after struggling last season at the McDowell Activity Center. Despite last year's setback, UMary has found success in recent seasons at the MAC. The playing floor was christened Bortke Court in honor of long-time Mary men's basketball coach and athletic director Al Bortke in July 2009. Here is the Marauders NCAA Division II home record:
