BISMARCK, ND – Competing at home for the only time this season, the University of Mary women's track and field team put on a dominant show for their fans at the second annual Al Bortke Open. Highlighted by a school record from All-American
Tonie-Ann Pandohie, the Marauders posted ten wins and seven NCAA provisional national qualifying marks.
Pandohie had a hand in three of the Marauders wins and three of the provo times. The junior blazed her way to a school record in the 100 meter hurdles, clearing the barriers in 13.55 seconds. The old mark was 13.63 seconds, set by Janet Johnson in 2013.
The native of Kingston, Jamaica, opened her day with a win in the 100 meter dash with a clocking of 11.73 seconds.
Pandohie rounded out the meet by leading the 4x100 meter relay team of Pandohie,
Tanesha Davis,
Maria Bolibruch and
Julia Hammerschmidt to a win in a provo qualifying time of 46.66 seconds.
Hammerschmidt and Bolibruch also had several impressive performances. Hammerschmidt, a sophomore from Germany, captured the 200 meter dash in a provo qualifying time of 24.42. Bolibruch posted a provo qualifying time of 14.15 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles and took second behind Pandohie.
Hammerschmidt and Bolibruch then teamed with
Nelecia Richards and
Melanie Rodriguez to win the 4x400 meter relay with a provisional qualifying time of 3:48.36.
The final Marauders provisional qualifying mark was provided by Jamilee Gordon, who won the triple jump with an impressive mark of 12.08 meters.
Several other Marauders also picked up wins.
Jaiden Schuette edged out teammates
Bree Erickson and Richards to win over a deep field in the 800 meter run.
All-American
Alexis Zeis dominated the 1,500 meter run, winning with a time of 4:39.67. The Marauders
Kate Fox was second, nearly 18 seconds behind Zeis.
Kaycie Stewart rolled to a win in the 3,000 meter run. Her time of 10:34.55 was over 16 seconds better than the runner-up's clocking of 10:51.19.
In the 3,000 meter steeplechase,
Emma Hafdahl won the grueling event in 11:42.73, almost 22 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Davis, in addition to running on the winning 4x100 meter relay team, placed second in the 100 meter dash. Rodriguez and Nicolyn Brown went 2-3 behind Hammerschmidt in the 200. Brown later finished second in the 400.
Kylie Pastian claimed third in both the long jump and the triple jump.
The Marauders next compete at the Dickinson State Blue Hawk on Friday, April 14.
