MANKATO, MN – University of Mary sophomores
Derek Myers and
Luxon Glor earned all-conference honors on the opening day of the 2017 Northern Sun Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships to headline the Marauders efforts.
Myers blazed his way to a runner-up finish in the 3,000 meter run. The Gillette, WY, runner posted a mark of 8:32.17, a personal best by over 14 seconds. Myers previously won all-conference recognition last fall in cross country.
Glor sailed to third in the long jump. His top effort of 7.29 meters easily placed him in the top three and is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Sam Mackedanz scored the first points of the day for Mary. The sophomore tied for fifth in the high jump, clearing the bar at a provisional qualifying height of 2.07 meters. It is a new career-high for the Richmond, MN, native.
Mary ranks sixth after the opening day. Minnesota State leads with 54.50 points, followed by Sioux Falls (38), Wayne State (29), Augustana (25), Minnesota Duluth (23) and Mary (22.5).
Several Marauders qualified for Saturday's finals. Field events begin at 11 am with track events starting at 1pm.
Glor registered the best time in the 60 meter dash preliminaries, running an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 6.89 seconds. The sophomore also earned a spot in the 200 meter finals with a clocking of 22.16, 5
th best in the event's preliminaries.
Gabriel Wyllie will race in the 600 meter run after taking sixth in the preliminaries at 1:23.55.
Teegan Olson will run in the finals of the 800 meter run as the seventh seed, checking in at 1:56.64.
Marceau Jovin advances after clearing the 60 meter hurdles in 8.42 seconds, taking seventh in the prelims.
