Meyer, Pittsley, Krebs and Gay earn All-Northern Sun football honors

BURNSVILLE, MN – Four University of Mary football players earned a spot on the 2017 All-Northern Sun team and all four are first time selections. Bailey Meyer claimed second team honors and Brock Pittsley, Noah Krebs and DeShawn Gay received honorable mention recognition.

A sophomore from Sheboygan, WI, Meyer broke the school record with an average of 40.8 yards per punt, the second best mark in the NSIC this season. Incredibly accurate, he downed 13 of his 56 attempts inside the opponent's 20 yard line while only five kicks resulted in touchbacks. Opponents fair caught 13 punts and returned just 21 balls for an average of 3.6 yards/return. The Marauders were second in the NSIC in net yards/punt at 36.5 yards/punt. Additionally Meyer boomed eight punts over 50 yards, including a career-best 82 yard punt against Bemidji State University that just missed the school record.

The Marauders lone senior on the All-Conference team, Pittsley was one of the league leaders in sacks this season. The defensive lineman from Killdeer, ND, was credited with seven sacks, the third-highest total in the NSIC and a career-best. Pittsley had a string of five straight games where he reached the opposing signal caller, including games with 2.5 sacks against Bemidji State and 2.0 sacks against MSU Moorhead. He finished the season with 31 tackles and 8.0 tackles for loss.

One of the most active tacklers in the Northern Sun, Krebs led the Marauders with 92 tackles, including 52 solo stops. He was eighth in the NSIC in tackles per game with 8.4. He also broke up two passes during the season. Four times the sophomore safety from Bismarck, ND, was credited with double-digit tackles in a game. Krebs had a season-high 16 against the University of Sioux Falls and totaled 15 against St. Cloud State University.

In his first season at UMary, Gay was the Marauders big play specialist as the freshman produced both the longest scoring run and scoring reception during the year. The slotback from Dayton, OH, ran for a team-high 458 yards with an average of 6.2 yards per carry and three touchdowns. He also caught four passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Gay ran for a career-best 144 yards at Wayne State College, including a 59 yard scoring strike. He caught a 72 yard touchdown pass at Bemidji State University and had a 61 yard touchdown reception against St. Cloud State. Including his rushing, receiving, punt return (1 yard) and kick return yardage (482), Gay led the Marauders and was ninth in the NSIC in all-purpose yardage with 1,092, an average of 99.3/game.
