Nathan Clifford registered a goal and an assist and
Michael Hertz was credited with a pair of helpers as the University of Mary men's soccer team defeated host Brandon University 4-1. It was the fourth win in five games for the Marauders.
Clifford opened the scoring with the lone goal of the first half. Taking a feed from Asencio, the freshman from Derry, Northern Ireland, scored his second goal of the season in the 35
th minute of play for a 1-0 UMary lead.
A two-goal second half outburst in the time span just over two minutes sealed the win for the Marauders. This time on the finishing end, Asencio scored off a feed from Hertz at 51:20. Just 132 seconds later,
Austin Ellingson found the net for his first collegiate goal, taking advantage of assists from Hertz and Clifford.
The Marauders win was sealed in the 78
th minute on an own goal when the Bobcats Stefan McGonigle knocked the ball into the Brandon net.
Brandon got on the board in the 88
th minute when Taylor Blue scored.
UMary improves to 5-5-1 overall. The Marauders wrap up a five-game road trip at Southwest Baptist University on Oct. 15.
