LAKELAND, FL – Scoring for the first time this season, Kevin Portugues put the University of Mary men's soccer team on the board against Florida Southern. The Marauders would fall to the Mocs by a score of 2-1 despite a late push by UMary.
With the loss the Marauders fall to 1-10-1 on the season. FSC improves to 4-4-5 on the season.
The Marauders and Mocs were scoreless in the first half with each team only accounting for one shot on goal.
FSC got the scoring going in the second half when the scored in the 60th minute of play. 15 minutes later the Mocs tallied again to put the Marauders down 2-0.
Kevin Portugues responded to the two second half goals by FSC with a goal for the Marauders to bring the score within one. Portugues posted his first career Marauders goal off a feed from Steven Hutzenbiler.
The goal by Portugues began a late push by UMary. In the last 8:18 of play, UMary recorded two of their three shots on goal and four of their five shots.
Florida Southern held a 7-5 advantage in shots. Each team recorded three shots on goal.
UMary held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
