MOORHEAD and MANKATO, MN – Sven Dunkel set a new University of Mary men's indoor heptathlon record and Beau Nutting and
Kylie Pastian both claimed victories to headline the efforts of the Marauders men's and women's track & field efforts for the weekend.
A freshman from Erzhausen, Germany, Dunkel generated 4,590 points in the heptathlon at the Minnesota State Multis competition. Dunkel placed first in the 1,000 meter run in 2:43.53 and was third in the pole vault at 3.90 meters to headline his efforts among the seven-event competition. Dunkel placed fifth overall.
The previous school record was 4,565 by Hwang Lee in 2014.
Two other freshmen, Jackson Penner and Scott Sibley, finished 11-12 in the pentathlon.
Nutting captured the lone win for the Marauders at the Cobber Duels. The junior from Gilette, WY, topped all competitors with a leap of 42-8.75 in the triple jump.
Several Marauders posted runner-up finishes. Senior Zack Graves claimed second in the 200 meter dash in 22.95 seconds. He also was 4
th in the 60 meter dash in 7.20 seconds.
In the long jump, sophomore Dallas Horner sailed 21-0.00 in the long jump for a second place finish.
A senior from Colorado Springs, CO, Andrew Dubiel finished second in the shot put with a throw of 46-11.75.
Pastian, a native of Hillsboro, ND, returned to the Red River Valley to win the long jump. She claimed the title with an effort of 17-2.25. Pastian also was second in the triple jump at 35-3.00.
Competing for the first time since early in the cross country season last fall, senior
Chelsea Bennis placed third in the mile run at 5:29.97.
Mary next competes at the NDSU Bison Invitational on February 4.
