Zeis breaks own school mark in 3k at 2016 NCAA indoor championships, places 9th in country

PITTSBURG, Kansas – Running her final indoor race of the season, University of Mary All-American Alexis Zeis broke her own school record in the 3,000 meter run and placed ninth at the 2016 NCAA women's indoor track & field championships.

A two-time Northern Sun champion in the 3,000, the sophomore from Bismarck, N.D., ran the distance in 9:35.32, a new school record. She was the top finisher among NSIC competitors.

Despite a strong kick in the middle of the race where she moved briefly into second, Zeis missed eighth place - and what would have been her fifth All-American citation – by .02 seconds. She missed seventh place by .08 seconds. Zeis placed 8th in this event at the 2015 NCAA indoor championships.

The Marauders finished 30th overall with six points. Davina Carr captured all the U-Mary team points after taking third in the pole vault on Friday and earning All-American honors for a second straight year.
