FAYETTE, Iowa - After taking a commanding first set lead, the University of Mary couldn't fend off an Upper Iowa comeback as the Peacocks beat the Marauders 3-0 (25-23, 25-18 and 25-19) Saturday, Oct. 29.

The Marauders led 16-4 in the first set but UIU went on a 13-2 run to pull within one point, 18-17. The Peacocks had all the momentum moving forward and went the distance to win the first set and eventually the next two sets for the conference victory.

Thayna Silva finished with a team-high 11 kills for the Marauders as
Lauren Randall added eight more.
Freddie Campbell and
Anna Nietfeld also finished with seven kills each.

Mary hit .142 in the Northern Sun match but the Peacocks hit .531 in the second set and .292 in the match to secure its fifth NSIC win of the season.

Mary held the advantage in the kills (42-36), assists (40-34) and digs (50-39) category but UIU was better around the net.

The Peacocks finished with seven total blocks compared to Mary's three.

UIU was led by Haley Weepie who finished with 11 kills and hit .259 in the match as teammate Bethany Lovhaug collected seven kills and finished with a team-high .500 hitting percentage.

Kelsey Hinrichs and Ashley Larson each finished with double-digit digs for the home team as Silva collected a team-high 15 digs for the Marauders.

Geovana Almeida and
Elise Bauman added 11 digs apiece for Mary.

Senior setter
Janell Finkbeiner collected 34 assists in the match. It was the fifteenth time this season that Finkbeiner finished with at least 30 assists in a match.

With the loss the Marauders are 2-11 in its last 13 matches and are on a four-match losing streak.

The Marauders will be back home for its final two home matches of the 2016 regular season as the Blue & Orange host No. 3 Concordia-St. Paul on Friday, Nov. 4 and No. 8 Wayne State on Saturday, Nov. 5.
