Thorson Announces 27 Additions to Marauders Track & Field Program

BISMARCK, N.D.  – Twenty-seven student-athletes are set to join the University of Mary men's and women's track & field / cross country program next fall, announced Marauders head track & field coach Mike Thorson. Fourteen women and 13 men have committed to continue their education at Mary and compete for the Marauders beginning in 2015.
 
Student-athletes from nine different states have signed with the Marauders. Ten of the commitments are from North Dakota.
 
The Marauders women's track & field team captured both the Northern Sun indoor and outdoor team titles. The indoor title was Mary's fourth in five years and the sixth in nine. The outdoor championship was the fourth straight and seventh in nine years. The women's team also sent nine competitors to the NCAA indoor national championships and ten to the NCAA outdoor championships.
 
On the men's side, the Marauders jumped three places from a year ago in the outdoor championships. The 2015 outdoor results was also an improvement of four spots from the team's 2015 indoor finish. Mary also had its first outdoor individual champion this spring for the first time in five years.
 
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD / CROSS COUNTRY COMMITMENTS
 
Hector "David" Chavez (Distance, 5-10, Bowman, N.D. / Bowman HS)
An all-state track performer at Bowman High School, David Chavez also earned all-region recognition in both cross country and track for the Bulldogs. Chavez is a team captain in both cross country and track. He led his cross country team to 4th place at the North Dakota Class B meet as a junior in 2013 before improving to third in 2014. He helped his 4x800 meter relay team place fourth at the state track meet in 2014 before improving to third in 2015. Chavez has posted times of 2:04 in the 800 meter run, 54.1 seconds in the 400 meter dash, 4:55 in the 1,600 meter run, 10:40 in the 3,200 meter run and 18:10 in the 5,000 meter run. An honor student, Chavez will pursue a degree in athletic training and physical therapy at the University of Mary.
 
 
Dallas Horner (High Jump/Long Jump, 5-11, 175, Bismarck, N.D. / Bismarck HS)
A multi-sport athlete, Dallas Horner has been a member of several successful Bismarck High School track & field and football teams and was a member of the state championship 4x100 meter relay team as a senior in 2015. Horner has been part of three straight Demon's track & field state championships (2012-13-14). He has cleared 6-2 in the high jump and 21-0 in the long jump. Horner also is a member of the Bismarck football team that won the WDA title in 2013 and 2014 and was the state runner-up in 2013. A three-year member of the National Honor Society and ranked first in his class, Dallas is the son of Jennifer and David Horner and will major in athletic training at the University of Mary.
 
 
 
 
Jack Lamb (High Jump. 6-4, 190, Sedalia, Colo. / Rock Canyon HS)
An all-conference performer, Jack Lamb is a team captain and the points leader for Rock Canyon High School. He owns the school high jump record at 6-6. He has posted personal records of 43-10 in the triple jump and 21-6 in the long jump. An all-conference honorable mention as a junior in track, he was first team all-conference in football as a junior and second team as a senior. A three-time all-academic first team selection, Jack is the son of John and Jodie Lamb and will major in biology at the University of Mary.
 
 
Riley Miller (jumps, 5-11, 165, Carrington, N.D. / Carrington HS)
A six-time state placewinner, Riley Miller is a two-sport athlete at Carrington High School. Miller claimed second in the state in the long jump and third in the triple jump and the 4x100 meter relay as a senior in 2015. He finished fourth at state in the long jump in 2013 and seventh in 2014 while placing fourth in the triple jump in 2014. Named his school's most improved track athlete in 2012 and 2013, Miller was Carrington's most valuable jumper in 2014. He has sailed 22' 8" in the long jump and 44' 8.75" in the triple jump. As a senior in football in 2014 Miller earned honorable mention all-region recognition. A member of the high honor roll, Riley is the son of John and Brenda Miller and will pursue an athletic training degree at the University of Mary.
 
 
Sean Olson (Track, 5-10, 150, Devils Lake, N.D. / Devils Lake HS)
A three-sport athlete at Devils Lake High School, Sean Olson will compete for the Marauders track & field program. He also was a member of the basketball and football teams in high school. The son of Beth and Randy Olson, Sean will major in sports management at the University of Mary.
 
 
Teegan Olson (Distance, 6-0, 145, Minot, N.D. / Minot High School)
A multi-sport athlete, Teegan Olson helped Minot High School to a fourth place finish as a senior at the 2015 state track meet by scoring points in three different events. He finished third in the 800 meter run, seventh in the 3200 meter run and ran on the sixth place 4x800 meter relay team. In soccer Olson earned all-state and all conference honors and was the Magicians team captain and most valuable player. In addition to track, Olson will compete in cross country at the University of Mary. A member of the National Honor Society, Teegan is the son of Jay and Tiffany Olson and will major in engineering at Mary.
 
 
Tyrell "Ty" Rosencranz (Jumps/Sprints, 6-1, 180, Spearfish, S.D. / Spearfish HS)
A South Dakota state placewinner in the triple jump as a junior and senior and a long jump placer as a senior, Tyrell "Ty" Rosencranz was a three-sport athlete who will compete in track & field for the University of Mary. Rosencranz placed third in both the triple jump and the long jump as a senior in 2015. A two-time conference triple jump champion, he finished fourth at state in 2014, Rosencranz also was the conference long jump champion as a freshman and junior. The team's most valuable field performer as a sophomore and junior, his personal record is 45' 9" in the triple jump and 21' 7" in the long jump. The leading scorer on his football team where he played wide receiver and cornerback, he also played basketball. A member of his school's honor roll, Ty is the son of Jennifer Johnson and intends to major in engineering at Mary.
 
 
Christopher Stock (Distance, Minot, N.D. / Minot HS)
A four-time state competitor in cross country at Minot High School, Christopher Stock will run both cross country and track for the University of Mary. He helped the Magicians take third in the state in cross country as a junior in 2013 while placing 45th individually. Minot State placed sixth in his senior year but Stock improved to 34th in the state cross country championships.
 
 
Colten Stoltz (Sprints/Jumps, 5-11, 165, Mandan, N.D. / Mandan HS)
A two sport athlete at Mandan High School, Colten Stoltz competed in both track and football for the Braves. He has primarily competed in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and the triple jump. At the 2015 North Dakota state championships Stoltz placed 14th in the triple jump. Colten is the son of Denis Stoltz.
 
 
Jordan Swango (High Jump, 6-3, 170, Palmer Lake, Colo. / Palmer Ridge HS)
A state champion high jumper and a member of the 2014 and 2015 Palmer Ridge High School 4A Boys state championship teams, Jordan Swango is a three sport athlete who also competes in basketball and football. Swango won the 4A Colorado state high jump title as a senior in 2015 with a career-best effort of 6' 6". He has a personal best mark of 21' 2" in the long jump. A volunteer with several local charities, Jordan is the son of Kyle and Katharine Swango and plans to major in criminal justice at the University of Mary.
 
 
Parker Thompson (Sprinter, 5-11, 180, Bismarck, N.D. / Bismarck HS)
A co-captain on the 11-time defending state champion Bismarck High School track & field team, Parker Thompson is a sprinter for the Demons and competes in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash and the 400 meter relay. He joined with fellow Marauders recruit Dallas Horner to win the state 4x100 meter relay championship. His top times are 11.41 seconds in the 100 and 43.70 in the 4x100 relay. In addition to track he also competed in football at BHS. The son of David and Laurie Thompson, Parker intends to major in criminal justice at the University of Mary.
 
 
Brendan Wick (Hurdles, 5-11, 150, Medina, N.D. / Medina HS)
Owner of two school records, Brendan Wick has competed in the hurdles, sprints and throws at Medina High School. He placed 9th at the 2015 North Dakota state championships in the 110 meter hurdles. He has personal records of 43.00 seconds in the 300 meter hurdles, 16.67 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles (both school records), 25.50 seconds in the 200 meter dash, 18' 2" in the long jump, 120' 6" in the javelin and 97' 5" in the discus. Wick also competes in cross country and basketball for the Thunder. The son of Liza Hoffman and Justin Jensen, Brendan plans to pursue an athletic training degree at the University of Mary.
 
 
Gabriel "Gabe" Wyllie (Middle Distances, 5-10, 155, Bend, Ore. / Mountain View HS)
Team captain both his junior and senior seasons for the Mountain View High School track & field and cross country teams, Gabe Wyllie competed in four sports in high school. Wyllie helped his school's 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams to 4th place finishes at the 2015 state championships and qualified for state in the 400 meter dash. He twice earned second team all-state honors in cross country (2012, 2013) and was a district champion in the 4x400 relay in 2014. His top times are 22.8 seconds in the 200 meter dash, 50.3 seconds in the 400 meter dash and 1:57 in the 800 meter dash. Wyllie also has competed in swimming and Nordic skiing. The son of Darrick and Rosalie Wyllie, Gabe intends to major in teacher education at the University of Mary.
 
 
 
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD / CROSS COUNTRY COMMITMENTS
 
Destiny Beautiful Bald Eagle (Distance, 5-2, Dupree, S.D. / Cheyenne-Eagle Butte High School)
Twice a top-four finisher at the South Dakota state cross country meet, Destiny Beautiful Bald Eagle is a four-time team captain for both cross country and track & field (2011-15) and is a three-time team most valuable player (2011-14). Bald Eagle finished third at the at the 2010 South Dakota state cross country meet as an 8th grader and finished fourth in 2011 as a freshman after posting a personal-best time of 14:56.90. She was a three-time 6A regional champion (2011-13) and a two-time individual LNI champion (2011-12). A first team all-conference selection as a freshman, she was the Big Dakota Champion in 2013. She helped her team to a LNI team championship in 2010-12 and the region 6A team championship in 2011-13. A member of her school's honor roll and the National Honor Society, Destiny is the daughter of Remi Bald Eagle and Desiree Howard and a cousin to current Marauders men's basketball player Darius Sparks. Destiny plans to major in physical therapy at the University of Mary.  
 

Maria Bolibruch (Hurdles, North Kingstown, R.I. / North Kingstown HS)
A state indoor champion, Maria Bolibruch competed for North Kingstown High School. As a senior in 2014, she won the Rhode Island state indoor championship in the 55 meter hurdles and helped her team take fourth in the 4x200 and 4x400 meter relays. Bolibruch then claimed third at the New England High School Championships in the 100 meter hurdles with a clocking of 14.81 seconds.  
 
 
Alyssa Bornhoft (Distance, Sioux Falls, S.D. / O'Gorman HS)
A four-time competitor at the South Dakota high school cross country championships, Alyssa Bornhoft placed career-best 30th as a senior in 2014. In track she finished 12th in the 3,200 meter run as a junior, ran on the 11th place 4x800 relay team as a sophomore. Her freshman year in 2012, Bornhoft was 13th in the 3,200 meter run and 8th in the 4x800 meter relay.
 
 
Hannah Gale (Sprints, Corvallis, Mont. / Corvallis HS)
A member of the 2015 Montana Class A state championship Corvallis High School squad her senior season, Hannah Gale claimed a state title in the 4x100 meter relay. She also took fifth in the 100 meter dash. As a junior she placed eighth at state in the 100.
 
 
Jackie Harmon (Middle Distance/Distance, 5-5, Fargo, N.D. / North High School)
The EDC Cross Country Senior Athlete of the Year for Fargo North High School, Jackie Harmon was also a part of a state champion relay team in 2013. Four times she earned EDC all-region cross country honors, was the team's rookie of the year in 2009, the squad's hardest worker in 2013 and the team's most valuable performer three different seasons (2011-13-14). In track Harmon closed out her high school career with a fourth place finish at state in the 800 meter run, took ninth in the 1600 meter run and 6th in the 4x800 meter relay. Harmon was part of the state champion 4x400 meter relay team in 2013. She also won the EDC 4x4 championship in 2012, was the regional champion in the 800 meter run and the 4x800 meter relay in 2013, and holds the school record for the mile run. Her track efforts earned Harmon team most improved honors in 2013 and MVP recognition in 2014. She has posted career-best marks of 15:27 in the 4,000 meter run, 2:20 in the 800 and 5:17 in the 1,600 meter run. A member of the Key Club and the National Honor Society, Jackie is the daughter of University of Mary alumni Valerie and Howard Harmon and intends to major in speech pathology.
 
 
Kamryn Higgins (Distance, Las Vegas, Nev. / Arbor View HS)
A distance runner who competed in cross country and track at Arbor View High School, Kamryn Higgins competes in the 800 meter run, the 1,600 meter run, the 3,200 meter run and the 4x800 meter run.
 
 
Tess Hoherz (Distance, 5-8, Beulah, N.D. / Beulah)
A multi-sport athlete at Beulah High School, Tess Hoherz will run both cross country and track for the Marauders. Team captain as both a junior and a senior, she has earned all-state honors once, is a three-time all-region selection and a senior athlete finalist. Also a basketball player in high school, she has a top time of 16:07 in the 4,000 meter run. The daughter of Mary and Kevin Hoherz, who is a University of Mary alumni, Tess looks to become a high school counselor.
 
 
Kiana Maxon (Sprints, 5-5, Rapid City, S.D. / Stevens HS)
A three-sport high school athlete at Stevens High School, Kiana Maxon has lettered in cross country, basketball and track. She runs the 100 and 200 meter dashes and on two relays. Her personal best times in the 100 is 12.17 seconds and 26.34 seconds in the 200. A member of the National Honor Society, Kiana is the daughter of Jackie Maxon-Talley and Ivam White Mountain. Her brother Brady Maxon currently attends the University of Mary. Kiana intends to major in nursing at Mary.
 
 
Kylie Pastian (Jumps, 5-8, Hillsboro, N.D. / Hillsboro HS)
The 2015 North Dakota Class B state champion in the long jump, Kylie Pastian placed in four events to lead Hillsboro High School to a second place finish as a senior. Pastian won the long jump with a mark of 17-10.25. She placed second in the triple jump, 4th in the 100 meter dash and took home a second state title as a member of the winning 4x400 meter relay team. An eight-time state placer, she led the Burros to a 4th place state finish and a regional championship as a junior in 2014 and second at regions in 2013. Entering this season she has won three straight regional long jump titles and broke a 43 year old school record in the event. Entering this spring she has personal records of 17-7.75 in the long jump, 12.72 seconds in the 100 meter dash, 26.57 seconds in the 200 meter dash and 7.73 seconds in the 55 meter dash. Pastian also competes in volleyball and basketball for the Burros. The class valedictorian and a National Honor Society member, Kylie is the daughter of Rockwell and Kristy Pastian. Her mom, Kristy, is a University of Mary alumni. Kylie is undecided on an academic major.
 
 
Miranda Ripplinger (Javelin, Lisbon, N.D. / Lisbon HS)
A four-time placer in the throws at the North Dakota state track meet, Miranda Ripplinger is a three-sport athlete at Lisbon High School. As a senior in 2015 she placed second in the javelin and was seventh in the discus. She also ran on the 4x400 meter relay team. Ripplinger took third place in the javelin and seventh in the discus at state in 2014. Her top effort in the javelin is 128-6 and she has thrown the discus 114-11. Ripplinger also competes in the high jump and the relays for the Bison and is a member of the volleyball and basketball teams. An all-academic selection in three sports for four years each, the top-ranked student in her class and a member of the National Honor Society, student council and more, Miranda is the daughter of Cindy and Paul Ripplinger and intends to major in athletic training at the University of Mary.
 
 
Jaiden Schuette (Distance, 5-7, Bismarck, N.D. / Century HS)
A two-time all-state performer in cross country and a five-time state placer in track, Jaiden Schuette has helped Century High School win a state cross country title and four track & field championships. An all-state selection in cross country as a junior and senior and a four-time all-conference selection, Schuette helped the Patriots win the 2014 state title. A team captain in both cross country and basketball, she has helped Century win four state girls titles (2012-15). As a senior, Schutte ran on the state champion 4x800 meter relay team, placed third in the 800 meter run and was third in the 4x400 meter relay. Schuette helped her 4x800 meter relay team take second at state as a sophomore in 2013 and finished ninth in the 800 meter run. She has clocked top times of 15:16 over 4,000 meters in cross country and has a mark of 2:22 in the 800. Schuette's sister, MiKayla, is a member of the University of Mary women's soccer team. A National Honor Society member and a Special Olympics volunteer, Jaiden is the daughter of Paulette Kerzmann and Randy Schuette and intends to major in nursing at Mary.
 
 
Chante Spotser (Sprints, Federal Way, Wash. / Todd Beamer HS)
Chante Spotser has earned a spot in the Washington state track championships four straight years. As a senior in 2015, Spotser qualified in the 4x200 meter relay. She ran the 400 meter dash at state as a junior in 2014. Spotser placed second in the 400 and also ran in the 4x200 relay as a sophomore. In her freshman season she placed eighth in the 400 meter run and competed in the 4x200 meter relay. 
 
 
Emily Wolter (Distance, Avon, Minn. / Holdingford HS)
A four-time competitor at the Minnesota Class A high school cross country championships, Emily Wolter helped Holdingford High School to an eighth place finish as a senior in 2014 while placing 34th individually. Twice she has placed at the section championships in track. Wolter claimed fourth in the 3,200 meter run as a senior and was seventh in the 800 as a junior.
 
 
Marley Yates (High Jump, 6-0, So., Gresham, Ore. / Sam Barlow HS / Mt. Hood Community College)
A future two-sport track and women's basketball student-athlete for the Marauders, Marley Yates transfers to the University of Mary from Mt. Hood Community College. As a freshman for MHCC in the spring of 2014, Yates placed third in the high jump at the NWAACC conference championships with a leap of 5-6. She also ran a leg on fourth place 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relay teams and was seventh in the 200 meter dash. As a high school junior in 2012 at Barlow High School, Yates finished ninth at the Oregon 6A state championships. In basketball she averaged 11.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 2.3 assists per games as a sophomore in 2014-15 at Mt. Hood. As a freshman at MHCC she produced 9.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.0 steals per game.
