ABERDEEN, S.D. – In a tremendous two days, University of Mary's
Molly McDonald earned Northern Sun all-conference honors and posted three NCAA provisional qualifying marks while taking third in the conference multi-event championships. The junior from Lakewood, Colo., finished first in two events and second in two others in the seven-event heptathlon.
Her efforts earned the Marauders six points in the NSIC championships set for May 8-9.
McDonald's first day began with a personal record and a provisional mark in the 100 meter hurdles with a 14.11 in a legal 4.0 wind, leading the field after one event with 963 points. Her tear through the 7-section event continued with another personal record and provisional qualifying mark of 5-6 in the high jump, earning 830 points. After earning just 414 points after heaving the 4kg shot 27 feet, McDonald ended day one with a bang in the 200 meter dash. She zoomed to a half second personal record of 25.45 for 846 points to finish the day in third.
Day two began with McDonald reclaiming her lead on the field after another personal record in the long jump when she eclipsed 18' 4.5" before gravity reclaimed her to Earth. The jump added 729 points to her total. In the javelin she eked out a throw of 52'7" for 216 points before returning to her strength on the track.
Sitting in fourth place with one event remaining, McDonald regained third place after posting a time of 2:26.97 in the 800 meter run to earn 731 points and round out the Heptathlon with a personal record and provisional qualifying total of 4729 points.
McDonald currently ranks 20th in NCAA Division II in the 100 meter hurdles, 31st in the high jump and 17th in the Heptathlon.
