INDIANAPOLIS – Nine University of Mary women's track & field student-athletes will compete in seven events at the 2015 NCAA Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala., on March 13-14.
Headlining the Marauders contingent is six-time All-American
Kathryn Stewart. The 2015 NSIC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, Stewart will compete in three events and was selected in four. The Kingston, Jamaica, native will run individually in the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. She will also run a leg on the 4x400 meter relay. Stewart is seeded 8
th in the 200 (24.24 seconds) and 9
th in the 60 (7.55 seconds).
Competing in her seventh NCAA championship event, Stewart earned indoor All-American honors as a freshman in the 200 meter dash, in the Distance Medley Relay team in 2013 and on the 2014 4x400 meter relay that placed second.
Danylle Kurywchak will compete in the triple jump. The junior from Cameron Park, Calif., posted one of two automatic qualifying marks for U-Mary this season for the NCAA championships. Her top mark of 40' 11.75" is a school record and ranks her 5
th in the country.
Sophomore
Davina Carr makes her first NCAA appearance in the pole vault. The native of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., finished second at the NSIC championships and ranks sixth nationally with a top effort of 12' 10".
Bismarck, N.D., native
Alexis Zeis competes in her second national championship event as a freshman. After earning All-American honors at the NCAA cross country championships, she has earned a slot at the indoor championships in the 3,000 meter run. Zeis is seeded ninth with a time of 9:38.15. She will also run on the Distance Medley Relay.
Joining Stewart on the 4x400 meter relay team is junior
Josie Guptill and sophomores
Melanie Rodriguez and
Cassandra Jones. Rodriguez and Jones ran with Stewart on last year's 4x400 to earn All-American honors. Their seeded time of 3:47.36 is 10
th in the country.
The DMR squad consists of Zeis and fellow freshman
Brittany Brownotter, Jones and senior
Brienna Lynch. The quartet's top time of 11:33.21 is second in the country and earned the Marauders an automatic berth to the national championships. Lynch earned All-American honors when she ran on the Marauders 2013 NCAA national championship DMR team.
