BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Three more All-American honors for the University of Mary capped the 2015 NCAA Division II Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Alexis Zeis picked up her second All-American honor in two days,
Danylle Kurywchak the first of her career and the seventh all-time for
Kathryn Stewart.
In the two-day meet the Marauders totaled 11 team points to finish tied for 21
st overall. Central Missouri captured the national championship with 47 points.
Competing in her first national championship, Kurywchak finished eighth in the triple jump with a top mark of 40' 3.5" (12.28 meters). The junior from Cameron Park, Calif., earned a spot in the finals with her first leap of the day, a distance of 40' 1.75" (12.22m). Her second attempt proved her best effort and was enough for Kurywchak to earn her first All-American accolades.
Competing in her seventh national championship and her fourth and last indoor finals, Stewart placed eighth in the 200 meter dash in a clocking of 24.66. The senior from Kingston, Jamaica, finished just .001 seconds out of seventh place. For Stewart, this is the seventh time she has garnered All-American honors.
After helping the Marauders to a fifth-place finish in the Distance Medley Relay team on Friday, Zeis crowned the weekend with a second All-American finish. The Bismarck, N.D., freshman completed the 3,000 meter run in a career-best 9:39.08 to place eighth.
Zeis, the 2015 Northern Sun Women's Indoor Newcomer of the Year, now has three All-American citations after placing 21
st at the 2014 NCAA cross country championships.
In the final event of the day, the Marauders 4x400 meter relay team was unable to finish.
For the weekend, the Marauders placed in five of seven events at the NCAA championships, earning seven Marauders All-American honors.
Davina Carr placed fifth in the pole vault and the Distance Medley Relay team of Zeis,
Brittany Brownotter,
Brienna Lynch and
Cassandra Jones finished fifth.
