Marauders Set for NCAA Women's Indoor National Championships on March 13-14

BISMARCK, N.D. – Thoughts of All-American honors and national championships are alive for nine members of the University of Mary women's track & field teams as the Marauders prepare for the 2015 NCAA Division II Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala., on March 13-14.

Hosted by the University of Alabama Huntsville, the championships will take place at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

Competing first at the NCAA Championships for the Marauders is Davina Carr in the pole vault. A sophomore from Nine Mile Falls, Wash., Carr ranks sixth in the nation. The pole vault is slated for a 3:15 p.m. start.

Six-time All-American Kathryn Stewart is next up for the Marauders. The senior from Kingston, Jamaica, will race in the preliminaries of two events. She will run in the second flight of the 60 meter dash at 3:45 p.m. before racing in the fifth flight of the 200 meter dash at 6:05 p.m. Stewart is the lone U-Mary performer competing in two individual events.

U-Mary's opening day is capped by the Distance Medley Relay championship at 7:30 p.m. Scheduled to run are freshmen Brittany Brownotter and Alexis Zeis, sophomore Cassandra Jones and senior Brienna Lynch. Lynch was part of the Marauders national championship DMR team in 2013.

Championship Saturday on March 14 will see the Marauders compete in at least three events and possibly five.

First up on day two for the Marauders is Danylle Kurywchak. The lone U-Mary competitor to automatically qualify for nationals and the fifth seed in the triple jump, the junior from Cameron Park, Calif., is scheduled in the second of two flights. The event is set to start at 12:30 p.m.

Should Stewart advance from the preliminaries to the finals, the 60 meter dash is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. with the 200 meter dash at 5:20 p.m.

The last individual event for the Marauders is the 3,000 meter run. An All-American last fall in cross country, Zeis is seeded ninth in an event scheduled for 5:40 p.m.

The Marauders close out the 2015 national championships with the 4x400 meter relay. Slotted into the second of four sessions, U-Mary will race in the last event of the meet at 6:15 p.m. Set to run is junior Josie Guptill, sophomore Melanie Rodriguez, Jones and Stewart. Rodriguez, Jones and Stewart combined to place third in the event last year.

The 2015 Northern Sun champions, the Marauders are eighth nationally in the final USTFCCCA computer rankings of the indoor season.
