MANKATO, Minn. – Freshman
Alexis Zeis picked up one of two championships for the University of Mary on the first day of the 2015 NSIC / U.S. Bank Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships and the Marauders are poised to make a run for another conference title.
The Marauders, who saw their string of three straight NSIC indoor titles ended last winter, are in second place with 37 points after the opening day. Augustana leads the field with 47 points.
Zeis picked up the Marauders first title when she captured the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:43.10. Her effort was an NCAA national provisional qualifying time.
The Distance Medley Relay team of
Kennedy Robbins,
Kameya Johnson,
Brienna Lynch and Katelyn Engh claimed the conference's top spot with a provisional qualifying time of 12:05.60. The group just missed the conference record set by U-Mary in 2013 by 1.73 seconds.
Davina Carr just missed a third Marauders title. She tied for the top height in the pole vault with an effort of 3.90 meters but took second on the tiebreaker. A provisional qualifying mark, Carr missed her career-high by .01 meters.
In the long jump, junior
Danylle Kurywchak placed fifth with a leap of 5.67 meters. The distance is a season-high and a provisional qualifying mark.
