RESULTS

Bismarck, ND – All-American hopes continue for two University of Mary seniors while two other Marauders had their outstanding careers come to a close today at the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Melissa Agnew and Jennifer Agnew both advance to the finals while Tracy Lide and Alicia Nehl fell just short in their bids to continue competing.

Jennifer Agnew had the strongest opening day for the Marauders. The three-time All-American from Onamia, MN, posted the second fastest time in the preliminaries of the 3,000 meter steeple chase. Running in the fastest heat of the day, she clocked a 10:55.77 in the event, the second best time in her group. Jennifer Agnew placed seventh in the event at last year's championship and owns the sixth fastest time in the country this season. The steeple chase finals are set for Friday, May 24, at 8:15 PM central.

The lone automatic national qualifier in the 1,500 meter run this season, Melissa Agnew eased into the finals. The 11-time All-American placed third in her heat and had the 12th fastest time overall on the day, completing the event in a time of 4:37.75. The two-time Central regional athlete of the year, Melissa Agnew finished second nationally in the event last year.  She will run in the finals on Saturday, May 25, at 6:35 PM.

U-Mary's two other seniors fell shy in their hopes to reach the finals.

A native of Watauga, SD, Nehl was a scant .14 seconds from capturing the 12th and final slot in the 3,000 meter steeple chase finals. After posting the 17th best time entering the championships, Nehl finished 13th in the preliminaries with a time of 11:22.52.

The lone representative for the U-Mary men's team, Lide clocked a time of 10.64 seconds in the 100 meter run. At the end of the three preliminary heats the Las Vegas, NV, native finished 19th overall. This was the second straight season Lide competed at the NCAA outdoor championships when he ran in the 200.

Three more Marauders open competition on Friday, May 24, at the NCAA championships. Three-time All-American Kathryn Stewart races in the 200 meter dash at 6:30 PM Central / 5:30 PM Mountain.  Janet Johnson and four-time All-American Melissa Walker will both run in the 100 meter hurdles at 7:40 PM Central / 6:40 PM Mountain.
