Alex Dorr scored 11 straight points for the Marauders early in the second half to give the University of Mary a spark of hope on the road against 19
th-ranked St. Cloud State. An official's whistle sent the Marauders senior to the bench moments later with foul trouble and doused U-Mary's spark in a 92-64 loss to the Northern Sun-leading Huskies.
Held scoreless in the opening half after playing only nine minutes due to foul trouble, Dorr found his stroke early in the second half. Trailing 44-30, the Marauders (3-7 overall, 2-4 NSIC) went on an 18-8 run to pull within four points with less than 15 minutes to play. U-Mary's leading scorer this season, Dorr scored 11 straight points for the Marauders to key the run.
After hitting two of three free throws when he was fouled shooting from behind the arc, the senior from Norwalk, IA, then nailed three straight three-pointers. With the Marauders now down just 52-48, Dorr went to the bench when he was whistled for his fourth foul. In a five minute span with Dorr out of the game, the Huskies (9-1, 5-1) went on a 13-2 run to build a 15 point advantage. The Huskies continued to grow a lead that would balloon to as many as 33 points.
Dorr led the Marauders with 11 points in 18 minutes, finishing the game 3-for-3 from the field. All his shot attempts were from behind the arc.
Two other Marauders also scored 11 points, and both were career-highs.
Brandon Tyler hit three treys and scored all 11 points in the opening half. Playing in front of a hometown crowd,
Blake Maslonkowski hit all five of his field goal attempts and his lone free throw. He also had three rebounds.
Theo Rothstein led the Huskies with 21 points, one of five players in double figures. Shaun Jensen had 14 points and four assists and Chris Larson contributed 13 points and five blocks.
Turnovers played a huge role in the outcome. The Marauders turned the ball over 24 times while the Huskies mishandled the ball just three times. SCSU turned that disparity to a 37-2 advantage in points off turnovers.
U-Mary held a 31-23 rebounding advantage but SCSU outscored the Marauders 38-20 in the paint.
Additionally the Huskies held a big advantage at the free throw line. The Marauders went 6-of-7 at the stripe while the opposition went 18-of-27.
The Marauders conclude their weekend road trip at the University of Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, January 5.
