Dorr Double Double Can't Prevent More Marauders Last Minute Heartbreak

Box Score Wayne, NE – A dominating performance by Alex Dorr couldn't prevent another heartbreaking loss for the University of Mary as the Marauders lost 60-54 at Wayne State College. This was the fourth time in six games U-Mary had a chance to win or tie in the final minute of play and lost.
 
Dorr recorded his fifth double double of the season, leading all players with 22 points and 13 rebounds. The senior forward hit both his three-point attempts and all four free throws. He also added two assists and was the lone U-Mary player to score in double figures.
 
Wayne State (12-6 overall, 6-6 NSIC) led all of the first half except for a brief early tie at 2-2 and built as much as a nine-point lead before entering intermission up 28-31.
 
U-Mary (3-13, 2-10) would gain its first lead of the night early in the second half. Baskets by Brandon Tyler, Marc Musungayi and Dorr during a 6-0 run allowed the Marauders to briefly move ahead at 34-33 with 14:35 left in the game.
 
With neither team able to surge forward, Mike Johnson gave U-Mary its final lead of the night at 45-44 and 8:16 on the clock.
 
Latroy Wright regained the lead for the Wildcats after hitting two free throws to start a 7-0 Wayne State run. Derrell Williams followed with a three-point play and a Ty Bauschek jumper capped the Wildcats spurt.
 
Scratching to stay in the game, Blake Maslonkowski scored in the paint off a feed from Dorr at 1:49 to pull the Marauders within 55-51. Johnson then hit another three pointer in front of the Marauders bench to make the difference 55-54 with 35 seconds remaining. Choosing to foul, U-Mary sent Wright to the line. He made both free throws and pushed the Wildcats advantage back to three points at 00:27 showing.
 
With a final chance to tie the game the Marauders turned the ball over with 15 seconds remaining. Adol Aluong made two more free throws for the Wildcats and Bauschek added another with two seconds left to preserve the Wayne State win while sending U-Mary to its seventh straight loss.
 
The second half featured eight lead changes and four ties.
 
The Marauders dominated the board, holding a 34-22 advantage that allowed U-Mary to outscore WSC 15-4 on second chance points. Offsetting their disadvantage on the boards was the Wildcats edge in turnovers (14 for UM to eight for WSC) and free throws. Wayne State was 16-of-22 at the line to U-Mary's 11-of-13 effort.
 
Musungayi scored eight points and had seven rebounds for U-Mary. Jalen Jaspers had seven points and Johnson six.
 
Bauschek led Wayne State with 15 points. Williams added 14 and Wright 10.
 
The Wildcats played without all-conference guard Amry Shelby.
 
After playing seven of their last nine games on the road, the Marauders return home to host Minnesota Duluth on January 25.
